I was living in Michoacán, Mexico when I became ill with Typhus. So I visited the local
pharmacy that had a small doctor’s office in the back room. While waiting for my turn to
be seen, I saw a newspaper on the table beside me. “Mujeres Sin Rostro” (Women Without
Faces) was printed in big, bold letters across the front. I thought the article might
have been about a new suspense movie coming out, or something else equally interesting.
After all, I was a tourist blinded by all the beauty of a foreign country. Flipping open
the paper, I started reading the most astounding stories about abducted women who had no
control over their lives. Some forced into slavery, others choosing it after feeling they
had no options, all the women were at the complete mercy of others. A life-long activist
for other causes, I wanted to do something that would call attention to such injustice.
That desire led me to write the historical western A REBEL IN JERICHO,
the first book in
The Jericho Resistance series, which was written to raise funds to fight human
trafficking.
Straddling two worlds…
Matthew Martin has always had one boot on each side of the border. From his humble
upbringing in a small Mexican pueblo, to a mean badge that requires a quick draw, Matthew
has always been satisfied with keeping his head down and doing his job right… until an
innocent picnic turns deadly, leaving him to make a decision that will change his life
forever.
Sent to the lion’s den…
When her beau accidentally dies during a heated argument, Catalina’s parents fear the
young man’s family is out for revenge. Deciding it would be safer to ship their daughter
off to relatives in Mexico, her parents hire Deputy Martin to escort their headstrong
daughter to the family’s rancho. The only problem is that Catalina (who never knew of her
heritage), looks at anyone South of the border as an enemy – including the deputy.
As the two begin their travels, they come across one situation after another, drawing
them closer together as they reach the border. Unfortunately, their troubles have only
begun when they attempt to cross into Mexico.
I hope you enjoy getting to know Catalina and Matthew, as well as the introduction to the
people who will appear in book two. Keep your eyes opened early next year for TWICE
REDEEMED, the story of John and Mercedes.
Happy reading!

After years of preparing for marriage, Catalina Santé is interested in little more than
making a good match. And why not? She’s young, beautiful, educated… everything a wealthy
man should want. However, a tragic accident will leave her with less than a marriage
proposal—she’s fighting for her very life!
Matthew Martin spends most of his time just trying to fit into American society. It’s one
of the reasons he became a deputy. Willing to risk it all in order to protect Catalina,
he can’t imagine what that entails… until she’s abducted and sold to a Mexican saloon,
where a border battle rages between two towns.
Can love and faith survive in such a harsh place? Will Matthew even be able to save
Catalina?
