Back when I was ten and dreaming about being an author, I thought the job was
pretty simple…
*Write a book.
*See it on a library shelf.
And, truth be told, that would have been enough. I mean, it can’t get any
cooler than that, right?
Wrong.
This month’s release of WEDDING DURESS—the tenth book in my Southern Sewing
Circle Mysteries—and the twenty traditionally published titles before it
have all proven one thing. Being an author entails a lot more than writing a
book and seeing it on a library shelf.
To that end, I present to you my list of five things I never expected about
being an author (drum roll, optional)…
1) Spying your book on a bookstore shelf far from where you live never gets old.
Ever.
2) Getting fan mail is an incredible feeling all on its own. But hearing that
your book helped someone through a tough time is really the cherry on top.
3) Having someone drive an hour just to meet you at a signing is pinch-worthy.
4) Fictional characters do, in fact, talk to you. They’re particularly vocal
while driving a car and taking a shower. If you don’t listen to them, they cast
a spell on you known as writer’s block.
5) There really is something better than writing. It’s the people you meet
(writers and readers, alike) who become true friends along the way.
Part of me wishes I could go back in time and tell ten-year-old-me just how much
fun being an author would really be.
Then again, I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise.
About WEDDING DURESS
Librarian Tori Sinclair is tying the knot—as long as a murder doesn’t unravel
her plans…
Tori is ecstatic to become Mrs. Milo Wentworth in a few days, but she has a lot
to do before she sashays down the aisle. Favors need to be sewn, vows need to be
written— and a mystifying murder needs to be solved.
When Beatrice, a fellow member of the Sweet Briar Ladies Society Sewing Circle,
learns that her former nanny took a fatal fall in her new employers’ home, she
suspects the death was not an accident. Now Tori’s spending her last days as a
single woman untangling rumors and stitching together motives to find a killer.
But can she nab a murderer and make it to the church on time?
