We all have those types of books that are insta-buy. For me, I’m a huge fan of
any and all books that fall under the forbidden love umbrella. Enemies to
lovers? Sign me up! Any combination of best friend’s older brother/little
sister? So in! And, my personal favorite, the bodyguard.
With my newest release, PROTECTING FATE, I couldn’t help combining a few of these.
The hero, Z, is tasked with getting the heroine, Sara, out of town and keeping
her safe until things cool down and the danger passes. That’s enough to add a
dash of the forbidden because it’s pretty hard to guard someone if you’re naked
and all sorts of distracted.
As an added bonus, she’s also his best friend’s little sister. There’s such a
delicious angst that comes with that type of story line. He wants her like he
hasn’t wanted another woman in ages, and she’s the one woman he can’t lay a
finger on without all sorts of trouble falling down on his head. Add in the fact
that he’s got a boatload of baggage and is sure that he’ll never be the kind of
man she deserves and you have a forbidden love sundae of epic proportions.
It’s difficult to pin down exactly why this particular type of storyline just
flat out does it for me. It could be that I’m just contrary. The more you tell
me that I can’t do a thing or that this thing should most definitely not happen,
the more I’m like let’s do the thing. Apparently I never got past the toddler
mentality in that area.
Plus, in some ways, it makes the romance so much hotter. Both characters are
saying, “We should not do this thing… But come here, sugar.” They literally
cannot keep their hands off each other, even though both suspect it’s a mistake.
That’s hot. Really, really hot.
What about you? What are some of your favorite types of storylines?

About Katee Robert
Katee Robert
learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the
rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered
romance novels and never looked back.
Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she
spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between
traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like
to write a book and try to get published.
Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light
of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding
speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books
about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?
She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary
games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable
zombie apocalypse.
