LUTHER creator and writer, Neil Cross, isn't ready to say
farewell to his haunted Detective John Luther (
Idris Elba) just
yet. Although
BBCAmerica airs the series finale tomorrow,
Friday, September 6
th, we all know the characters will pop up on the
big screen in the future. Elba has voiced his emphatic support of a film, and
Cross has already started drafting the prequel detailing the
early days of Detective Luther.
But the future feature film is just the beginning of Luther's grand
adventures. Simon and Schuster released a book spinoff this week called LUTHER: THE
CALLING. The book follows Luther as a lowly inspector, and it is gritty and
uncomfortable—just like the great series. Cross penned the novel with the
hopes of showing fans the case that broke Luther and made him the troubled hero
we have welcomed into our lives. The wrenchingly dark novel will bridge the gap
between rabid fans of the series who need a LUTHER fix and fans of graphic
thrillers.
Also, when it gets too scary you can just look at Elba's sexy silhouette on
the book's cover.
LUTHER: THE CALLING is out now. It is the perfect sedative for those unable
to let John go Saturday morning.

This book sounds like one where you won't put it down until the last page is written, and perhaps you set it aside for a while and then read it again finding something new each time.

Because I only get limited Canadian television where I live, I'm unfamiliar with the series. It must be good if it has that great of a following, so I would love to read the book, and find out how the series came to be. What an exciting way to start out my Fall reading!! Knowing that this book could be made into a movie is an added plus!!
