What is the title of your latest release?
REAP & SOW
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A young woman bargains with a demon to save her brothers, only to risk losing her heart in this slow-burn romantasy about dark magic, unlikely love, and the imperfect beauty of mortality.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Elizabethan England and drew architectural inspiration from cities with neo-Gothic aesthetics like Edinburgh and Prague. That blend of gritty history and Faustian magic really complemented one another, and helped bring Blackbridge to life.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Definitely! I think Eda would be a little closed off at first, but once she got comfortable, I imagine she’d be surprisingly chatty.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Brave, determined, loyal.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I think working on REAP & SOW made me a better writer in general, but more specifically, it reinforced the importance of perseverance. My first book drew little interest from literary agents; if I’d given up at that point, REAP & SOW would never have existed. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed when starting a new project, but I know now how normal that is—and that it has nothing to do with my ability to write another book I’m super proud of.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I try not to spend too much time on it, but I do edit as I go. I like to write a relatively “clean” first draft, meaning I try to tell the story from start to finish with no missing scenes or chapters, ect. There will inevitably be a great deal of editing to come, of course, but I find doing it this way works for me. I like making slightly less work for myself in later stages!
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
How can I choose? I love anything that is objectively bad for you, but I do have a soft spot for carbs—I could happily feast on pizza and pasta for days.
Describe your writing space/office!
Right now, I’m occupying what I call the “study”—which is basically a fancy name for our spare bedroom, where my desk is stationed. We are still in the process of putting up bookshelves and making it cozy! Sometimes, I just like to get comfy on the sofa with my laptop, too.
Who is an author you admire?
There are so many. Philip Pullman, Rachel Gillig, Katherine Arden, Naomi Novik, Heather Fawcett, Madeline Miller, and more.
Is there a book that changed your life?
The closest answer is HIS DARK MATERIALS, a trilogy by Philip Pullman. I finished that series when I was thirteen and it made me cry like a baby. After that, I decided that I wanted to be an author, too. There was something magical about being so wholly invested in the experiences of a fictional character. The thought of spinning my own tales and having that same effect on readers was the most exciting thing in the world.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
It was a totally surreal moment. After being ‘on sub’ to publishers for a few weeks, and enduring relative silence (agonizing!), suddenly responses started flooding it all at once. We turned down a first UK offer, only to receive another from Penguin Random House shortly after. It was so far beyond anything I ever dreamed of—and on a random Wednesday! About a week later, we received an offer from Berkley XO in the US. I nearly fell off my chair when my agents called me.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Fantasy, unsurprisingly!
What’s your favorite movie?
That’s a tough one. I love Howl’s Moving Castle, but I’m also a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings films.
What is your favorite season?
Autumn!
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I don’t tend to make a huge fuss of it, to be honest—a nice meal out, some sweet treats and maybe a cheeky film is my idea of a fabulous day.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I recently read THE EVERLASTING by Alix E. Harrow and loved it. I also always recommend Baldur’s Gate 3 to all my fellow gamers out there!
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I’m partial to both Italian and Thai, but I’m truly not picky. Tasty food is tasty food.
What do you do when you have free time?
When I’m not writing or reading, I like to play video games or even draw, when I find the time. Which is less often than I’d like.
What can readers expect from you next?
I’m currently working on the REAP & SOW sequel, which is the final installment in the duolog, and I’m so very excited to share more soon. Beyond that, I have some new ideas cooking—but I can’t say too much!

The penniless in Blackbridge have only two choices: sell the body or sell the soul. And thanks to Eda Shaw, business is booming.
Indentured to a capricious demon known as Mr. Night, Eda and her brothers arrange illicit Pacts on his behalf, luring the city’s most desperate into trading years of their lives for their deepest desires. When a Pact goes awry and her brothers are arrested, Eda realizes she’ll need an infernal ally of her own: Kit’rath, a demon with a curious penchant for humanity, an infuriating wit, and is the only being in Blackbridge Mr. Night seems to fear. As they race to rescue her family and save the city from ruin, an undeniable connection sparks between mortal and demon.
But Kit’s help doesn’t come cheap. Now, Eda risks losing her heart to the one who claims her years—and saving herself may prove the steepest cost of all.
Rich with gothic atmosphere, sharp wit, and simmering romantic tension, Reap & Sow is a fantasy debut perfect for fans of Rachel Gillig, Hannah Whitten, and Heather Fawcett.

Charlotte is a fantasy author living in the UK with her husband, cat, and slightly mad dog. She believes books are the closest anyone can get to real magic, and when she isn't daydreaming about fictional characters, she's at her laptop writing them—if the cat isn’t already sitting on it.
