Kimberly Lemming | A wildlife biologist was studying meerkats when she got abducted by aliens

1--What is the title of your latest release?

I GOT ABDUCTED BY ALIENS AND NOW I'M TRAPPED IN A ROM-COM

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A wildlife biologist was studying meerkats when she got abducted by aliens. Now she finds herself on the other side of the camera in an intergalactic conservation effort run by a terribly underfunded research team to help a nearly extinct alien race with her species saving coochie.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

The main goal is that the Biwbans want to preserve what is left of the Sankado species after they were decimated in an oil spill caused by the Biwban’s recklessness. The Sankado’s home planet, Krydon 4 was too far gone to save, and a new planet had to be sourced out. I wanted the Biwbans in charge of the conservation project to try and create an ideal habitat for both humans and Sankado by terraforming a new planet. Since humans are more fragile than Sankado, they were used as the basis for the new planet. However, due to lack of funding, corners had to be cut. Instead of sending a proper research team to Earth to learn about human culture and habitat, they scanned a bunch of DNA from various museums they found around New York and ran it through their AI system to spit out what is now a dinosaur infested planet.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Absolutely. Dorothy can talk my ear off about all the animal facts she wants because I want to hear it all. If I wasn’t a writer, I think my dream job would be a wildlife biologist.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Curious, scatterbrained, flexible

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

In theory, a male Parasaurolophus can indeed carry a full-grown lion, a human woman, a Sankado, and their luggage safely without breaking his back. They also sound like saxophones when they blow air through their crest. I learned a lot of dinosaur facts basically.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I tend to edit as I draft because I like to think about the scene once I do a mad dash through it. I’m not one of those writers that can just fight my way through the end of the first draft. I like to ponder and wander around the story.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Cajun crab boil

9--Describe your writing space/office!

My office is painted BFF pink, and I made the wall on the opposite end of my desk a chalk board wall so I can stare at all my doodles and notes. My corgis have a big fluffy purple bed next to my chair so they can keep an eye on me in between breaks of barking at the neighbors for the nefarious crime of existing too close to the house.

10--Who is an author you admire?

John Scalzi. That man is so endlessly creative and original in his works, and I find it deeply inspiring.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Her Majesty's Dog by Mick Takeuchi. This was the first manga I ever read as a kid. I didn’t like reading much because the only books I knew were the boring ones forced on me by the American school system. My mom was pushing me to read more so I decided to ‘cheat’ by picking up a manga. Jokes on me I guess because I binged all 11 books and immediately started drawing manga of my own. When manga was no longer enough, I moved onto fantasy novels and romance and the rest was history.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I never thought traditional publishing would be interested in a poly alien romance with pink dinosaurs, so when my agent texted me saying Berkley wanted it, I think I must have just stared at that text for a good minute just thinking “…what?”

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Unhinged fantasy. I’m talking werewolves that chew off their own leg just because they smelled their mate, or a supervillain that uses cats as secret agents. Give me all the nonsense.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

I don’t think I have one. It changes on a dime.

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall. Basic I know, but gimmie all the pretty leaves.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

By getting my way.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I love What We Do in The Shadows

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Japanese or Korean food.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Reading, fishing, long walks, kayaking and video games.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

More goofy aliens and more Mead Mishaps

I GOT ABDUCTED BY ALIENS AND NOW I'M TRAPPED IN A ROM-COM by Kimberly Lemming

Cosmic Chaos

A hilarious and sexy romance about a woman who gets dropped on a strange planet only to fall for not one, but two, aliens, from the author of I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf.

Dorothy Valentine is close to getting her PhD in wildlife biology when she’s attacked by a lion. On the bright side, she’s saved! On the not-so-bright side, it’s because they’re abducted by aliens. In her scramble to escape, Dory and the lion commandeer an escape pod and crash-land on an alien planet that has...dinosaurs?

Dory and her new lion bestie, Toto, are saved in the nick of time by a mysterious and sexy alien, Sol. On their new adventure, they team up with the equally hot, equally dangerous Lok, who may or may not be a war criminal. Whether it be trauma, fate, or intrigue, Dory can’t resist the attraction that’s developing in their trio....

As this ragtag group of misfits explore their new planet, Dory learns more about how and why they’ve all ended up together, battles more prehistoric creatures than she imagined (she imagined...zero), and questions if she even wants to go back home to Earth in this hilarious and steamy alien romance adventure comedy romp.
