1--What is the title of your latest release?

ALL THE CAPTIVE GIRLS

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A serial killer uses artificial intelligence to place the reporter who outed him at crime scenes while hiding in plain sight, dressed as a phantom pirate, during Tampa, Florida’s infamous Gasparilla Pirate Invasion and Parade.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I always wanted to set a book during Gasparilla. The month-long celebration, based on the infamous pirate Jose Gaspar, is cinematic and unique to the Tampa area. It’s flamboyant and fantastical, with people dressing as pirates and wenches celebrating with parades, festivals and other activities for four weeks in January and February each year.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Yes, she’s feisty and determined but also loyal and well meaning. She’s uptight but learns to let go and have fun.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Smart, feisty, determined.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned more about Tampa’s shadowy history, including the underground tunnels of Ybor City reportedly used for transporting alcohol during the prohibition. I also learned so much about artificial intelligence, how criminals are using it and how police are using it, too.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I edit as I draft but usually only reread the chapter before and do some light editing before moving on to the next chapter.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

ribeye and red wine.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I have an office upstairs in my condo full of books, and away from windows lol It’s warm and comfortable and I love being there.

10--Who is an author you admire?

so many but right now Harlen Coben, T J Newman, Rebecca Yarros, Colleen Hoover

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Anything by Judy Blume when I was young.  Harlan Coben’s book made me want to writer mystery, thrillers.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I met an editor for Entangled Publishing at a writer’s conference.  I pitched my first book Alive at 5 and she loved it.  Entangled bought the book and published it. The thrill of reading that email is hard to match.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Romantic Suspense and Thrillers.  I like a little love with my mysteries

14--What’s your favorite movie?

The Notebook. Top Gun. Any James Bond movie.

15--What is your favorite season?

Summer.  I’m a Florida girl.  Bring me the heat.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With my family and friends living a fun experience. Don’t need presents, just need my loved ones to be present.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Mel Robbins podcast about living a healthy life.  She’s inspirational and helped me learn about narcissism and how it affected my life

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Cuban or Mexican

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I love the water so my husband I will take the boat out and cruise around in the beautiful waters around Tampa Bay or boat to lunch with friends.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

Another adventure with TV news reporter Mari Alvarez and her homicide detective Tony Garcia.  I also want to write an action-adventure thriller called Hurricane.  It’s Twister – but a Hurricane.  Lived through three in Florida this year alone, so I feel I’m qualified. LOL

ALL THE CAPTIVE GIRLS by Linda Hurtado Bond

Broken Girls #3

Don’t believe your eyes.

What you see
Can’t be believed.

He’ll take who you love.

He’ll take her family. Her friends. Her reputation.

Guilty until proven innocent…

From Emmy Award–winning journalist Linda Hurtado Bond comes a ferocious, terrifying game where your own eyes can deceive you…and a killer will watch every move you make.

Tampa Bay crime reporter Mari Alvarez thought the worst was behind her. She thought she could return to work, her sister, her friends, and her still-undefined relationship with Detective Tony Garcia. To find something almost normal…until a killer everyone thought was dead contacts her.

Because he wants to play a game—a twisted dance of revenge, where Mari must play by the rules…or lose everyone and everything she loves.

Now Tampa Bay’s lively Gasparilla pirate festival has turned into an event filled with terror and horror, and Mari is the unwitting star. Every move she makes is being watched by social media, even as the killer twists the truth and manipulates her with lies, deepfakes, and misinformation.

He can take her job. He can take her reputation. He can take everyone who loves her.

And unless she can stop him, he’ll hold her captive in the one cage she won’t be able to escape: her own fear.
