Back in college, I changed my major I don’t know how many times, but every time I did, it was because I’d read a new romance and whatever job the heroine had, it sounded like something I’d like to do. Until I read the next book and… well, you get the idea. Needless to say I spent a lot of years in college, but ended having a major epiphany that propelled me to actually graduating (with a degree in English, which, let’s face it, is reading).
That epiphany changed my life. I’d always loved reading, and it was reading romance that made me consider becoming a writer. So that light bulb moment? Become a romance author and I can work all those fabulous occupations for as long as it takes me to write that book! How did I not see that before? Well, when I finally accepted that bit of truth, it was only a matter of time before I got those stories out into the world. Okay, it took me maybe another fifteen years or so, but hey. Who’s counting?!
You might wonder what this sliver of my author origin story has to do with my latest release, A COWGIRL ON HIS DOORSTEP. Well, let me tell you. In another life, I would LOVE to be a DIY improvement guru. Don’t get me wrong and don’t believe for a second that I can operate power tools because as far as I know that is a talent I am sorely lacking. But as with most of my heroines, I lived vicariously through Iris Blackwell as she moves around the country rebuilding, refurbishing, and designing RV and trailers (and of course posts videos on social media).
A COWGIRL ON HIS DOORSTEP is my contribution to the latest Blackwell continuity series for Harlequin Heartwarming. For those unfamiliar with the line, it’s their sweet, small town romance line that’s big on family and even bigger on falling in love. These are sweet stories for sure (no spicy stuff!), but they’re filled with heart. My book is the third, or middle child so to speak. Books 1 (A COWGIRL NEVER FORGETS) and book 2 (A COWGIRL FINDS HOME) are also out now. Each story stands alone, but this is a collection focused on healing a family and bringing a group of five sisters, who once performed together as trick rodeo riders, back together. And boy is there some drama to heal before that can happen.
Cue Iris Blackwell’s arrival at Shane Holloway’s, well, doorstep. Did I mention she also has a rescue dog named Cosmo? He’s so cute! But I digress. Iris is in Texas to fix up Shane’s crotchety father’s old RV and instantly finds herself in the middle of a heartbroken family dealing with loss and trying to heal. Shane has become an instant father to his orphaned nephews and niece while struggling to run the ranch he was never meant to inherit. Losing his brother has left him floundering, but he can’t afford to get things wrong when so many people are depending on him. He’s the perfect man for Iris, which makes him so wrong. She’s a free spirit with dreams beyond Texas and Shane has roots deeper than, well. Let’s just say they run deep. Cue the romantic games on the way to a well-earned Happily Ever After!
I loved getting to live out my DIY dreams through Iris. She’s even made me a bit braver when it comes to tackling things to do around the house. I’m nowhere near ready to tackle a complete remodel of any kind of live-in vehicle, but maybe I can wield a mean paint roller. Time will tell.
I hope you take a chance on this Blackwell Belle and spend some time with a family I truly believe you’ll fall head over heels in love with.
Happy reading.
