1--What is the title of your latest release?
SHIELDING THE INNOCENT TARGET
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A single mom witnesses a murder and must trust a lone wolf US Marshal to get her and her son safely into Witness Protection, but the assassin is hot on their trail.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
This is the fourth book in my US Marshals series with marshals from Texas. But I wanted my marshal to have to bring in a witness from Florida. It should have been an easy assignment. Put the mom and child on a plane and take them to Texas where they would enter WitSec. But problems arise and the trio, along with the child’s therapy dog, a golden retriever, must now drive across states.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Yes, I really enjoyed both Paige and Lucas. Lucas has such a big heart that he hides behind a loner vibe. It was fun digging deep to figure out what made him tick. And I would definitely like to have coffee with Paige and discuss life and love and faith. But I tend to write characters that reflect bits of me, so it’s like saying I’d like to hang out with myself. LOL
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Lucas—committed, responsible, loner
Paige—nurturing, compassionate, brave
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
The child in the story has epilepsy so I had to learn the signs and triggers of an epileptic attack and how a therapy dog is used to alert to an attack. As a kid, I had petit-mal seizures and on occasion grand-mal seizures. I was on medication for many years. I was taken off the medication as a pre-teen. I haven’t had any since. But researching the types of epileptic attacks brought back memories of my own bout with this type of epilepsy.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I dictate my first draft, then I edit it and send it off to my critique partner who sends it back with her notes. I then make another round of edits. Then when I’m done with the manuscript and I put all the chapters together, I read through it for a polished edit before sending it to my editor.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Oh, I love pizza. I could live off pizza.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I have a dedicated space in my house for my desk, bookshelf, and credenza. I work mostly there but I dictate my first draft in the bathtub and sometimes I’ll do my editing on the recliner in the living room.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Tess Gerritsen. I’ve been a fan of hers since before I decided to try my hand at writing. I love her books and the way she builds her characters.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
Techniques of the Selling Writer by Dwight Swain. From this book I began to really understand story structure.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I was taking my kids to school when I received a call on my then new to me cell phone. I was so excited. I had to call her back because I was driving!
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
I love romantic suspense and thrillers.
14--What’s your favorite movie?
80s and classic rock.
15--What is your favorite season?
Autumn
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
With good friends and a bottle of sparkling wine.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Oh, hubby and I just started watching So Help Me Todd. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it’s sooo funny and cute and yet deals with some heavy themes. I’m really enjoying it. Plus, it’s set in Portland Oregon-though they film it in Vancouver B.C.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Italian - pasta of any kind
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Play with my dog or hang out with friends
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I have four books coming out over the next year. To find out more about me and my books visit my website.
