Flowers Need Rain – Preston Pablo, Banx & Ranx
This song is full of so much loving need which is exactly what grows between Ava & Sammy in Healing Magic & Playboys. From chapter one Sammy has a craving for just a drop of Ava’s attention, like flowers thirsty for rain. (And with him being a water elemental, I love a song with liquid metaphors!) And these lyrics connect throughout the story, with each of our MCs becoming vital to one another.
‘And my head gets dark and heavy,
But then I see your face’ – This always has me thinking of the scene where Sammy discovers Ava is sick, and he does his best to take care of her. That’s when she realizes he’s more than just a self-centered playboy.
Black Magic – Little Mix
This magical bop matches beautifully with our witch heroine’s seduction skills. Because Ava is not only a witch … she’s got some succubus in her veins too! She thrives off lust magic and is not shy about filling her cauldron. Sammy only needed one sip of her secret potion … and he’s gone for her.
What a Man Gotta Do – Jonas Brothers
This is the perfect song for Sammy. His number one goal: figure out how to be Ava’s man.
‘What a man gotta do to be totally locked up by you?’
The upbeat—slightly desperate—tune pairs seamlessly with Sammy’s golden retriever energy. He falls first and he’s not coy about it, using every means at his disposal to win Ava’s affections. You should see some of the gifts he gets her …
‘I'd give a million dollars just for you to grab me by the collar’ – Yeah, Sammy would spend that much and more!
In Too Deep – Why Don’t We
This song is mentioned in the book! Ava dances to In Too Deep for one of her routines because she’s an unapologetic fan of boybands and this song has a sensual feel that matches the ambiance of The Jewelry Box (the strip club where she works).
Once again: I love finding a song with water references to match our water elemental hero.
‘I’m drowning but please don’t save me’
Sammy is in too deep to ever resurface, and he’s not mad about it. But also, Ava is surprised to realize how deeply she falls for this guy she never took seriously.
Black Magic Woman – VCTRYS
This playlist can never have too much magic, especially since Black Magic Woman also makes an appearance in the book! I love the tantalizing sound of this song along with the underlying warning…
‘Don't turn your back on me, baby’ – Later on in the book some unsavory characters find out why it’s a mistake to cross a black magic woman.
(Bonus) Sucker – Jonas Brothers
Sorry, but I cannot emphasize enough how smitten Sammy is with Ava. So, here’s another Jonas Brothers song to drive that fact home.
‘You’re the medicine and the pain, the tattoo inside my brain
And baby you know it’s obvious
I’m a sucker for you’
How does a dominate woman and a submissive man sound? Because this guy is a sucker for a witch.
Casual Magic #3
Ava Bellerose may use men to charge up her healing magic, but that doesn’t mean she wants to date one. She’s fine living life as a single witch working a day job as a college librarian and spending nights as the masked performer Pearl at The Jewelry Box. Every routine on the stage means more magic power in the bank, courtesy of the customers craving her body. One man in particular can’t seem to get enough. Ava finds perverse pleasure in ignoring his money and denying him anything more than a distant dance with zero eye contact. His admiration is intoxicating and the magical boost is all she needs from him. But the guy becomes impossible to ignore when he shows up outside of her apartment.
Their meeting must be fate…
Sammy Reyes can’t believe his luck. While visiting a new build site for work, he spots a heart-shaped behind and a pouty set of lips he’d recognize anywhere. Unfortunately, Pearl–or Ava–seems less than enthused to have her secret identity revealed, even if he promises to take her secret to a watery grave. From her hostile greeting, the gorgeous witch might be the one to bury him at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. But Sammy has spent his whole life charming people, and he’s determined to prove himself as more than a faceless fuel tank of lust. Especially when Ava makes it abundantly clear his money has no sway on her affections.
To woo the librarian, the water elemental will have to dive deeper than his normal surface-level charisma. But just as Sammy starts to show the vulnerable heart behind his confident mask, Ava’s two lives collide in the worst way. Can she risk stepping out from behind her own protective walls, or will she leave him wanting?
