Hi! I’m Elle Marr, author of five thrillers, and I’m excited to share a little about my latest psychological thriller THE ALONE TIME.

Two sisters, Fiona and Violet, survived a plane crash that killed their parents twenty-five years ago. Now, when a true crime documentary filmmaker begins digging into the past, they must face the secrets they left buried in the woods.

This story has twist after twist, with an antagonist that will surprise even the most well-read thriller lover. It’s also loosely inspired by my own experience with a plane crash when I was a kid.

T is for travel. Fiona and Violet swear off it after they are rescued from the Washington wilderness.

H is for Henry. Henry is Fiona and Violet’s father, and the pilot of the passenger plane that crash landed in the forest.

E is for explorers. True story: in the 1800’s, a band of explorers got lost in the Olympic National Park, the same location in which Fiona and Violet were stranded. It took the explorers six months to find their way out.

A is for art. As an adult, Fiona has channeled her trauma into creative expression, through her modern art installations in galleries.

L is for learning. Violet has had a hard time adjusting to life without their parents, cycling through phases of addiction and grief, and she’s finally ready to commit to her higher education again.

O is for Olympic National Park. This federally protected area, located in Washington state, covers fourteen hundred square miles.

N is for neurodivergent. The Alone Time explores certain neurodivergent mental health conditions and the importance of destigmatizing them.

E is for erratic. Janet, Henry’s wife and the sisters’ mother, recalled that the day of the plane crash, Henry was acting unusual, as if he had secrets he was already hiding.

T is for trauma. Because we all have it, and this story examines what happens when it’s left unresolved.

I is for impossible. While stranded in the woods, the Seng family finds themselves facing impossible choices to survive.

M is for mistress. After twenty-five years, Henry’s mistress is coming forward with new information that suggests the plane crash may not have been an accident after all.

E is for expose the truth. No matter how long it takes, the truth of a situation will always come out.

THE ALONE TIME by Elle Marr

The Alone Time

Fiona and Violet Seng were just children when their family’s Cessna crash-landed in the Washington wilderness, claiming the lives of their parents. For twelve harrowing weeks, the girls fended for themselves before being rescued.

Twenty-five years later, they’re still trying to move on from the trauma. Fiona repurposes it into controversial works of art. Violet has battled addiction and failed relationships to finally progress toward normalcy as a writer. The estranged sisters never speak about what they call their Alone Time in the wild. They wouldn’t dare—until they become the subject of a documentary that renews public fascination with the “girl survivors” and questions their version of the events.

When disturbing details about the Seng family are exposed, a strange woman claims to know the crash was deliberate. Fiona and Violet must come together to face the horrifying truth of what happened out there and what they learned about their parents and themselves. Before any other secrets emerge from the woods.
