1--What is the title of your latest release?

A PROMISE OF PERIDOT

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A Promise of Peridot is the sequel to my first novel, A Dawn of Onyx. It’s a swoony, thrilling, tension-filled, fast-paced fantasy romance, enemies-to-lovers epic.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I knew after exploring the kingdom of Peridot in the first book, that the tropical, pirate-laden, rainforest land would be a really fun place to send our slow-burn enemies on an adventure.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Absolutely. Arwen is my kind of girl: easy-going, warm-hearted, funny, and bright. I’d hang out with Kane too even though he’s terrifying if just to stare into those silver eyes all day long…

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

I’d say in this book specifically Arwen is resourceful, courageous, and kind.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

While writing this book I learned the importance of maintaining dramatic tension. It’s a very careful balancing act: too much and your readers will get bored of the slow burn. Too little and those big moments you’ve been working towards won’t land with as much of an oomph.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I wait until I’m done. I’ll write the entire book without even allowing myself to go back and re-read a single chapter. I have to get all the words down first. Then I go through and edit as I rewrite.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I’m a big baked goods gal. Croissants, cupcakes, muffins, pie… There’s almost nothing that could stop me from devouring a slice of carrot cake.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

At home I have a shared office with my husband and this fabulous green loveseat that I will curl up in like a cat in the sun and just never leave. I have a bunch of books on bizarre creatures and Greek myths and natural phenomena in that office that I’ll reference when I need a jolt of creativity.

10--Who is an author you admire?

I would follow Sarah J Maas into battle.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Not to double up on answers but reading A Court of Thorns and Roses is what inspired me to write A Dawn of Onyx, so I’d have to say that one!

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

At the time I was organizing my fridge when my agents called to tell me Berkley had pre-empted my book. I was definitely in shock. Then I think I started crying.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

I love Romantasy, but it’s harder to read now that I write it. I’d say contemporary romance is easiest for me right now.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

This is such a hard one! I’d have to say Almost Famous. The love story, the music, the atmosphere. It captures such a special moment in time.

15--What is your favorite season?

I’m a fall girlie. That’s why I made Amber Kingdom in my books perpetually fall. Halloween is my favorite day of the year.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Something really mellow is ideal. A game night, a weekend away with some girlfriends. Nothing that puts a lot of pressure on the day. My least favorite birthdays were 18 and 21!

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

It’s not recent but I am OBSESSED with Arrow. It’s an older CW show and has the best slow burn romance, twists and turns, and swoony MMC. It’s like a drug, I cannot stop watching.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Italian because of my love of carbs. I like to get three pastas and share them with just my husband. It’s more food than anyone needs and that’s why I love it.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I’m constantly working on a puzzle, in my garden, or baking something. I’m not good at having free time, clearly. I also like hiking and hosting my friends for game nights.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

My next book, A Promise of Peridot is out on April 9th! The final book in the trilogy is called A Reign of Rose and that’ll be out October 8th of this year, so just 6 months later. After that nothing that I can share just yet but hopefully a brand-new series and maybe one day a spin-off of some kind!

A PROMISE OF PERIDOT by Kate Golden

A Promise of Peridot

The next seductive, sweeping, action-packed installment in the addictive Sacred Stones trilogy.

A prophecy of death. A weapon of hope. A sacrifice of love.

Arwen Valondale is sailing for the mysterious Kingdom of Citrine after the battle of Siren’s Bay. Still reeling from the loss of her mother and the shock of her newfound powers, Arwen directs all of her pain and rage toward the man who betrayed her: King Kane Ravenwood.

But Kane’s presence is unavoidable as he leads Arwen and her friends on an expedition to recover the Blade of the Sun—a legendary weapon with the power to kill tyrannical Fae King Lazarus. Their uneasy truce proves difficult to maintain, as Arwen battles her unresolved feelings, and Kane is willing to become darkness itself to protect her.

Arwen knows failure to fulfill the prophecy will seal both her own fate as well as the fates of those she loves most. But as Arwen faces creatures, foes, and magic beyond her wildest imaginings, her resolve is tested in ways she never could have foreseen.
