Lisa Childs | A Saboteur Targets a Firefighter's Hotshot Team

twitterInstagramfacebook

1--What is the title of your latest release?

HUNTED HOTSHOT HERO

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Hotshot firefighter Rory VanDam is in danger and not just from the saboteur targeting his hotshot team but also from an ambitious reporter determined to uncover the truth about him.  Brittney Townsend finds more than a story with Rory; she finds danger and passion.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I’ve been setting this series in Michigan because it’s where I live and my fictional town of Northern Lakes is very much like the area where my husband grew up and where he worked summers with the U.S. Forest Service.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Yes, I would hang out with both of them.  Rory VanDam is a very honorable man, and Brittney is ambitious but loyal.  She loves her family very much.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Rory is: tough, resilient, smart

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned about Rory’s backstory.  While he’s been in the series for a while, I didn’t know exactly what had happened to him and how he’d wound up as a hotshot hero.  I love it when my characters tell me who they are.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

If it’s flowing, I’ll write the draft first and then edit. If it’s a slower pace, I edit as I write.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Chocolate – anything chocolate.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I have a dedicated office, so I can leave my notebooks and sticky notes lying all over the place and close my door to hide it.

10--Who is an author you admire?

Nora Roberts is my hero.  I admire her work ethic as much as her talent, and I try very hard to work as hard as she does.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

I’ve read so many that have changed my life, like The Call of the Wild by Jack London and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  I think the book that may have changed my life the most was one I wrote called Taking Back Mary Ellen Black.  It was a totally different style of writing than I was used to, and I loved challenging myself and my creativity.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

This is a story I’ve told often. After learning at a writer’s conference that Harlequin Intrigue was looking for books, I wrote one and sent it in unsolicited, so I knew it was going to the slush pile. My friend, on the other hand, was working with editors and revising, so we thought she would sell first. We practiced how she would get the call, so when I got the call the very next day after our role playing, I thought it was her goofing around at first. It took me a while to realize that it was real.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Right now, it’s mystery, but it changes often.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Moonstruck – I love the family dynamics!

15--What is your favorite season?

Autumn – I love everything about it. The temperatures and the changing colors, the smell and feel of it.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I’m a Halloween baby, so I love to hand out candy…and eat it.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I just watched the movie The Holdovers and loved it.  I also loved the last series of Only Murders in the Building!

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Nothing fancy for me – I love a big, juicy burger with all the fixings!

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I read.  I also try to jog or hike.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’m very excited about a book I have coming out this September.  THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY – it’s a thriller that’s been described as a Gothic Gilmore Girls or Succession meets Six Feet Under.  I had so much fun writing it.

HUNTED HOTSHOT HERO by Lisa Childs

Hotshot Heroes #10

Hunted Hotshot Hero

A killer’s after the man

…he used to be

Who’s more dangerous: The saboteur targeting Rory VanDam's hotshot team or Brittney Townsend, the hot reporter asking too many questions? Maybe the secrets Rory has had to keep since he survived a plane crash are more dangerous than both of them. When a killer pursues the guarded firefighter and relentless journalist, it’s Rory’s past that could cost them their lives. And his reluctant attraction to the newswoman could make him expose the shocking truth.
