1--What is the title of your latest release?

TRAPPED IN YOSEMITE

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

The quiet of the Yosemite wilderness is about to become the epicenter of a massive earthquake, trapping witness Stella Rivers in a deadly game of cat and mouse. It’s up to her ex-fiancé Von Sharpe, along with his team of Mountain Wilderness Guides and their dogs to fend off a killer dead set on destruction.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Yosemite is a special place for the Mentink clan. Every time I visit, I think it’s so incredible it hardly seems real. Such a grand setting seems the perfect place for a life-or-death struggle, don’t you think?

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Probably, but only in the city. If she’s fighting for her life in the wilderness, I’d be absolutely no help. She’s on her own in that case.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Determined, intelligent, vulnerable

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

John Muir loved Yosemite and he explored as much as he could. Often, he’d set out with only a blanket, a hunk of bread and some tea!

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

Light edits as I go and then a rip and shred fest when the first draft is done.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I am a sucker for pudding. I would eat it at every meal if I could, but the homemade kind, not the little plastic cup kind.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I have three “stations” where I write. The first is my “cloffice” which literally was a closet I converted to a desk space. The next is the edge of my love seat where I can look out at the birds bathing in the yard while I hunt and peck. The third is my favorite…my garden. I live in Northern, California so I am able to work out there for much of the year.

10--Who is an author you admire?

P.G. Wodehouse. It takes COURAGE to write humor. I can’t get enough of Bertie and Jeeves.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Aside from the Bible, no. I’ve been moved and changed my views on things after reading certain books, but nothing that completely changed my life.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

Well, sorry this doesn’t sound too dramatic, but it was an email from my agent. I squealed, though. Very excited to write for Love Inspired Trade.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Anything that’s well written, though I don’t read fantasy very much. I am a fan of psychological thrillers, in particular.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

As a child it was The Wizard of Oz. Now, probably Noises Off.

15--What is your favorite season?

The sunny ones, spring, and summer, but fall has its own particular charm.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With my family over a nice dinner and dishes I don’t have to wash.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I really enjoyed The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra, by Vaseem Khan. I had to read it because there’s an elephant in the story and I was just so interested to see how that could be incorporated into a cozy mystery. Really good book.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Italian, Chinese, Cuban

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Well, I have a go at gardening, and I read a lot Oh, and I’ve been trying to learn how to juggle, but it’s not going well.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I have two suspense novels coming out with Revell in 2025/26 plus a six book bloodhound series with Love Inspired Suspense. Book one, Tracking the Truth, launches in March 2023.

TRAPPED IN YOSEMITE by Dana Mentink

Trapped in Yosemite

When a massive earthquake levels the region, secrets and unknown dangers are exposed…

The ground in still-icy Yosemite National Park isn’t stable, and K-9 handler Von Sharpe fears the worst. But his worries are pushed aside when he sees an SUV viciously forced off the road…with his ex-fiancée at the wheel. It’s only when Stella Rivers steps out of the vehicle that the very ground under their feet cracks and breaks with the onslaught of a terrifying earthquake.

When her meeting with a mysterious client is ambushed, Stella witnesses the man being gunned down by a sniper and becomes a target herself. With the threat of aftershocks triggering landslides and floods, the new mom has no choice but to run to save her baby girl—even if it means teaming up with the man who has no idea he fathered her child.

Trapped in a dangerously unstable wilderness with a killer closing in, Von and Stella are running out of time to get to safety. And every fissure reveals a new secret that will shake them to their foundation…
