Hi! I’m Jennifer J. Chow, author of ILL-FATED FORTUNE. Thanks for letting me share about the first book in my Magical Fortune Cookie series!

Felicity Jin and her mother run a magical bakery in the quaint town of Pixie, California. Their life is charmed - until a prediction from one of Felicity’s handmade fortune cookies comes true in an unlucky way.

I is for identity. The Jin family identity is tied to their magical baking superpower.

L is for long. Felicity has spent years trying to discover her special Jin recipe.

L is for luck. One evening, after a bad takeout meal, she lucks out and invents handmade fortune cookies.

F is for Felicity. “Felicity” means happiness, an appropriate name for her because Jin pastries produce joy in others.
A is for additional power. With Felicity’s fortune cookies, her personalized predictions come true.

T is for trouble. One rude customer receives a very unlucky message.

E is for enforcement. Law enforcement comes calling when the customer is murdered.

D is for death. His body winds up in the alley behind the bakery.

F is for Fortune Cookie King. The dead man happens to be a fortune-cookie-making rival.

O is for opportunity. But he had a number of enemies, and they all longed for an opportunity to get him out of their lives.

R is for rabbit. A magical bunny arrives at the Jin household, ready to help Felicity.

T is for town. The close-knit community of Pixie could help—or hinder—Felicity as she searches for answers.

U is for understanding. Understanding her magical talent might increase Felicity’s chance of success.

N is for neighbor. Neighboring flower shop owner, Kelvin, is a great partner for Felicity (in more than one way).

E is for end. Felicity longs for a happy ending, to be clear from suspicion and get back to making enchanted treats.

ILL-FATED FORTUNE by Jennifer J. Chow

Magical Fortune Cookie #1

Ill-Fated Fortune

The first in the heart-warming and deliciously mysterious Magical Fortune Cookie series from Lefty Award-nominee Jennifer J. Chow.

Felicity Jin grew up literally hanging onto Mom’s apron strings in their magical bakery in the quaint town of Pixie, California. Her mother’s enchanted baked goods, including puffy pineapple buns and creamy egg tarts, bring instant joy to all who consume them. Felicity has always been hesitant in the kitchen herself after many failed attempts, but a takeout meal gone wrong inspires her to craft some handmade fortune cookies.

They become so popular that Felicity runs out of generic fortunes and starts making her own personalized predictions. When one customer’s ill-fated fortune results in his murder, Felicity’s suspiciously specific fortune has the police focusing on her as the main culprit. Now Felicity must find a way to turn her luck around and get cleared from suspicion.
