Book Title: PAWS TO REMEMBER
Character Name: Kathleen Paulson
How would you describe your family or your childhood?
I think the best word to describe my family is eclectic. My parents are actors. My younger brother, Ethan, is a musician and my younger sister, Sarah, is a filmmaker. (Sarah and Ethan are twins.) At any given time when I was growing up, Mom and Dad could be rehearsing for a play—and staying in character twenty-four hours a day. Ethan was often practicing with his band, The Flaming Gerbils. And Sarah was helping with make-up and costumes and filming everything. It was never boring!
What was your greatest talent?
I think my greatest talent was and is my ability to organize any situation. My parents and siblings are very creative people. I’m the one who always made sure we had socks, toilet paper and clean clothes. I’m also very, very good at road hockey and pinball.
Where do you live?
I live in Mayville Heights, Minnesota. I came here to supervise the renovations to the library for its centennial and ended up staying. The town has been incredibly welcoming.
How do you feel about the place where you are now?
I love living in Mayville Heights. As a child I moved and travelled a lot because of my parents’ work. I like having a permanent home. I have friends that have become a second family.
Do you have children, pets or both?
I have two cats, Owen and Hercules. Owen is a gray tabby and Hercules is a tuxedo cat. They’re not typical housecats. In fact, they often seem to think they’re people. I’m guilty of talking to them as though they understand everything I say and sometimes, I think they do. Both cats have some very, let’s say, unique abilities.
What keeps you awake at night?
Usually a cat poking me with a paw!
What do you do for a living?
I’m the head librarian at the Mayville Heights Free Public Library. After the renovations to the building were completed, I was invited to stay on. Part of the reason I took the job was because my boyfriend at the time had gone on a fishing trip and come back married to a waitress. (There was a lot of alcohol involved.) The town and the job gave me a new start and I fell in love with both.
Do you have a significant other?
I do. His name is Marcus Gordon and he’s a detective with the Mayville Heights police department. We met when I was a suspect in a murder investigation.
What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?
I’m a very good pinball player. I played a lot when I was a kid. I’m pretty good at any game that requires good eye-hand coordination. I’ve beaten Marcus at road hockey, rod hockey, and pinball.
What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?
My most pressing problem is trying to figure out how a body ended up behind a wall at the artists’ co-op store, how it managed to stay there undetected for decades, and who actually killed Lily Abbott.

But as the dust settles, her boyfriend, Detective Marcus Gordon, begins to suspect the body could belong to a young woman who disappeared more than thirty years ago.
When a friend with a connection to the young woman asks Kathleen to look into the circumstances around the disappearance, she and her cats—who have special feline talent for catching felons—find themselves digging up secrets that at least one person in Mayville Heights would much prefer stay buried.
