Book Title: MURDER AT THE MINE

Character Name: Lily Cranston

How would you describe your family or your childhood?

I had a wonderful childhood. The middle child of three girls, I grew up on a dairy farm in northern California. The three of us are like poster children for the birth order philosophy– perfectionist/independent/charmer. Mom and dad were the best, but sadly they both died while on a skiing vacation in Colorado over a decade ago. My younger sister and I take care of the family farm, minus the cattle. Our older sister is married to the town sheriff.

Significant other?

If my older sister, Pat, had her way, the county crime scene investigator would be my significant other. I’m not opposed to the idea, only our past history is a bit complicated.

Biggest challenge in relationships

I don’t do confrontations well. It’s something I’m learning to deal with.

Where do you live?

In the historical western community called Grady, California. We’re known for our ghost town and mine. It’s named after Thomas Grady, the man who first discovered gold in what is now a popular tourist destination.

Do you have any enemies?

Wow, none that I know of. We live in one of those small towns where everyone knows your name. The Cranston family has lived in the area for generations and we’re well liked. But you never know, I may have rubbed someone the wrong way by asking too many questions.

How do you feel about where you are now in your life?

I love my new job as manager of the Calico Rock Mine and Ghost Town, better known as The Park. My career took me out of the state for a while, but it’s great to be home again doing what I love.

Do you have any children or pets?

No, just the next best thing. My sister, Ava, and I live at the family homestead, and she has a Siamese cat called Coco. Our sister, Pat, has eleven-year-old boy/girl twins we adore.

What do you do for a living?

Like I said, I’m the manager of a wild west ghost town that draws visitors from all over the world. I love sharing the history of our community and how it all began when a wagon train scout discovered gold while in between trips.

Greatest disappointment?

Losing my parents while in my mid-twenties. Dad was a third-generation dairy farmer and mom was - well she was the best friend a daughter could have.

Greatest source of joy?

My sisters. Like stair step kids in age, we’ve always been close. There are squabbles from time to time, but our unspoken motto has always been all for one and one for all.

What do you do to entertain yourself or for fun?

You mean besides working at a theme park? Our family dinners at the farm are a blast. Pat is a wonderful cook, reading a good mystery, or taking walks in the forest are also ways I like to unwind.

What keeps you awake at night?

The thought of someone I love being punished for a crime they didn’t commit.

What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?

Finding the real killer without becoming the next victim.

Is there a particular lesson that was hard for you to learn?

Look before you leap.

MURDER AT THE MINE by Jamie L. Adams

Ghost Town Mysteries #1

Murder at the Mine

From author Jamie L. Adams comes a modern Wild West murder in a cozy California ghost town...

Lily Cranston is eager to return to her hometown and get a do-over on life. She'll be among old friends, with loving family, and as the new manager of the Calico Rock Mine and Ghost Town, she's excited to take on the challenge of turning the old west town back into the premier tourist destination she remembers from her childhood. But Lily's happy homecoming takes an unexpected turn when one of the Calico Rock re-enactors turns up dead—murdered in the ghost town!

Bill Stevens was anything but beloved to the staff and volunteers at the Calico Rock Mine. Womanizer, liar, and cheat are all words Lily finds being used to describe the dead man. But when one of Lily's old friends suddenly emerges as the number one suspect, Lily finds herself digging into the dead man's past...and finding secrets buried deeper than the old mine itself! While her Chief of Police brother-in-law, and the handsome CSI who is a close family friend—and possibly becoming more than just a friend—both warn Lily off the case, she's determined to prove her friend innocent and unmask the real killer. Can she solve the mystery, save her friend, and stay alive? Or will the ghost town claim another victim...
