1--What is the title of your latest release?
FOURTH WING
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
An elite war college for dragon riders where the foremost rule is graduate or die.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Answer: It seemed natural to lean into the background of my military family and lean into a war college setting.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Absolutely. She’s a lot like me.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Resilient, tenacious, smart
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
The physical differences between dragons and wyvern in western mythology.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
Both? I edit as I draft for the first half, then keep a list and go back after the draft is complete for the second half.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Chips & queso
9--Describe your writing space/office!
It’s centrally located in my house, which is awesome because I’m easily accessible to my kids, but also tough because it’s so accessible to my kids, lol! It’s really ergonomic to help with my connective tissue disorder and has a giant map of the continent on the wall.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Octavia Butler
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
It was pretty surreal. I was in the hospital after a surgery for my youngest son when I was told I’d have the honor of launching the red tower line, and honestly, it took months to really sink in!
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Fantasy Romance
14--What’s your favorite movie?
The Age of Adeline
15--What is your favorite season?
Fall
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Simple dinner with my husband and cake with my kiddos. I’ve had the same style birthday cake since I was about ten or so!
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Ted Lasso!
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Italian, but I’m allergic to gluten, so it’s tricky!
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Read or hang with my husband
20--What can readers expect from you next?
My romance, IN THE LIKELY EVENT comes out in July and the second book in the Empyrean series will release in November!
Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros
Twenty-year-old Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.
But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.
With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.
She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.
Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and lover of all things chocolate, coffee, and Paleo. In addition to being a mom, military wife, and blogger, she can never choose between Young Adult and New Adult fiction, so she writes both. She’s a graduate of Troy University, where she studied European history and English, but still holds out hope for an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Her blog, The Only Girl Among Boys, has been voted the Top Military Mom Blog the last two years, and celebrates the complex issues surrounding the military life she adores.
When she’s not writing, she’s tying on hockey skates for her kids, or sneaking in some guitar time. She is madly in love with her army-aviator husband of eleven years, and they’re currently stationed in Upstate NY with their gaggle of rambunctious kiddos and snoring English Bulldog, but she would always rather be home in Colorado.
