Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present India Holton!
Writes:
I see we’re starting with the tricky question first. My books tend to take genre categories and shoot them out of a canon. They’re historical fantasy adventure romcoms - with a couple of more sub-genres squished in there as well, such as light academia and satire. My upcoming novel, THE SECRET SERVICE OF TEA AND TREASON, is a screwball comedy about rival autistic spies who fake marriage to infiltrate a pirate’s house party so they can foil an assassination plot against the Queen. Shenanigans don’t only ensue but erupt all over the place, and our heroes quickly discover that “’til death do us part” might be very literal indeed.
About:
Snarky author seeking interested reader for long walks through the pages of romcom novels. Loves tea, books, and making characters frustrated by thwarting their desires. Can usually be found with a handkerchief, a Jane Austen quote, and a chocolate biscuit (whose existence will be denied if queried), but somehow never a pen when one is required.
What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:
Must enjoy tea parties and randomly exploding things. A sense of humor is essential, the kind that finds Oscar Wilde and Blackadder funny, but that isn’t amiss to a basic pratfall now and again should the proverbial hit the fan. Willing to get their perspective mixed up and their morals slightly askew, all in the name of laughs.
What to expect if we're compatible:
- Tea (possibly poisoned)
- Romance (open door)
- Flying houses (because why not?)
- No witches (they don’t exist)
- Elegant parties (bring your own grenade)
- Literary allusions (I had to use my BA in literature for something)
Dangerous Damsels #3
One of Buzzfeed's Romance Books To Look Out For In 2023!
Two rival spies must brave pirates, witches, and fake matrimony to save the Queen.
Known as Agent A, Alice is the top operative within the Agency of Undercover Note Takers, a secret government intelligence group that is fortunately better at espionage than at naming itself. From managing deceptive witches to bored aristocratic ladies, nothing is beyond Alice’s capabilities. She has a steely composure and a plan always up her sleeve (alongside a dagger and an embroidered handkerchief). So when rumors of an assassination plot begin to circulate, she’s immediately assigned to the case.
But she’s not working alone. Daniel Bixby, otherwise known as Agent B and Alice's greatest rival, is given the most challenging undercover assignment of his life— pretending to be Alice’s husband. Together they will assume the identity of a married couple, infiltrate a pirate house party, and foil their unpatriotic plans.
Determined to remain consummate professionals, Alice and Daniel must ignore the growing attraction between them, especially since acting on it might prove more dangerous than their target.

India Holton is the author of The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, a fantastical romcom set in an alternate Victorian era. She lives in coastal New Zealand, where she grew up running barefoot around islands, following ghosts through forests, and messing around in boats. She spent several years teaching and now writes about plucky girls, unconventional women, and the men who love them. India's writing is fuelled by tea, buttered scones, and thunderstorms.
