1--What is the title of your latest release?

ROMANCING THE MONSTROUS EARL

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Bridgerton meets monsters.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

It was part of the world building that it would take place at the Monsters Ball.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

I would love to hang out with Yvaine in real life. She’s an archer, a swordsman, a person with a can-do attitude and who cares about others. She’d be a great friend to have.

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Dandy. Self-aware. Adaptable.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned that I can still find joy in writing. I mean, I knew that, but this book proved it to me. I haven’t completed a manuscript in almost two years because my life has been more than a little unsettled, to say the least.

But I was able to get lost in my characters again and believe in their story, and it made me remember why I write romance.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I do both. I edit as I draft, and then I edit again when I’m done. And then I proof.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

There’s this drive-in burger place near my house that has the best cheeseburger I’ve ever had in my life. It’s smoky, like off a charcoal grill, and they do their bacon crispy, with local cheddar. They also have a gluten free bun that’s not crumbly and dry. It’s moist, but still holds up to all the toppings. It’s so delicious.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I no longer have an office, but I hope to rectify that soon. At the moment, it’s just a desk in my bedroom. But my room is full of things that make me happy. I have my prints from Prague, my folk doll of Vlad the Impaler, and this chicken portrait my daughter got me for Christmas. It’s hysterical.

10--Who is an author you admire?

There are so many. Dee J Holmes, Kerrigan Byrne, Jenn LeBlanc… I’ve been lucky to know so many talented authors.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Answer: Sweet Hell on Fire. It’s my own memoir, but the writing of it changed me for the better and helped me process a lot of things that I didn’t know how to grieve.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I knew from this book’s inception it was going to be published. When Dee was telling me about the Monsters Ball world, we planned out the book.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

It depends on my mood. I mostly read romance and horror, but I’m open to good stories, regardless of genre.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Right now, it’s I am Dragon. If you haven’t watched it, it’s a dragon shifter romance. The cinematography is beautiful, and the soundtrack is stunning.

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall. I love when the air turns crisp and sharp, and the leaves turn.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I like to take the whole month and indulge myself in treats from large to small. I like to spend time with friends, family, and stop and take stock of everything that’s making me happy.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Yellowjackets. It has stellar writing. The characterizations are all fully-formed and brilliant. As a developmental editor, I usually see every twist coming, if it’s been seeded correctly. However, they’ve still managed to surprise me and I’m obsessed.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

This changes all the time, too. Right now, I’m obsessed with Lebanese.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I’ve recently gotten into playing D&D. I wasn’t allowed to as a kid because my mom bought into all the “satanic panic” surrounding the game. I’ve part of two campaigns at the moment and I’m just having so much fun.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’m currently working on launching a new pen name with some darker themes. Sara Ravencroft will be releasing a series of vampire mob novels. Saranna will be finishing up the Middle-Aged Vampire slayer series and continuing the Fairy Godmothers Inc. series.

I’d love for readers to check out my website to connect with me via my newsletter.

ROMANCING THE MONSTROUS EARL by Saranna DeWylde

The Monsters Ball

Romancing the Monstrous Earl

Dear Lady Yvaine of Moray, It is with no great regret that Her Majesty informs you that after the unfortunate fencing incident with Lord Tyler, the stabbing of the younger Lord of Malay with a hat pin, and finally, the brawl with the Ladies Banning (including the Dowager), it is Her decree that you shall attend The Monsters Ball, and there you will find among them a husband to match your harridan, monstrous nature.

Lady Yvaine of Moray maintains that the above incidents were not entirely her fault. She was cursed, you see. Not to be a hat pin wiedling menace—although that is a plus in her book— but to be claimed by a low level demon who has bedeviled her since childhood. Her only way out: marry someone more villainous, who will send the fiend scurrying with his tail between his legs. Well, Lady Yvaine has never been one for half measures. So she sets her cap for the most villainous monster of them all.

The grotesque Earl of Evernight, an impossibly large, horned beast with wings, claws, and a devil’s tail. He's ruled his lands without question for a lifetime, but now the fates have come calling. To keep his claim on Evernight, he must marry and produce an heir. Mael will take her body and soul for his own, but didn’t count on her heart. He's decided demons don’t love, but Yvaine has never been one to back down from a challenge. This Season, place your bets at White’s: Will this be a match made in Hell, or an epic love to defy even the stars (and Her Most Irritated Majesty)?

This story is a stand alone novella-length novel set in the shared world of The Monsters Ball.

About Saranna DeWylde

Saranna DeWylde

Saranna De Wylde has always been fascinated by things better left in the dark. She wrote her first story after watching The Exorcist at a slumber party. Since then, she’s published horror, romance, and narrative nonfiction. Like all writers, Saranna has held a variety of jobs, from operations supervisor for an airline, to an assistant for a call girl, to a corrections officer. But like Hemingway said, “Once writing has become your major vice and greatest pleasure, only death can stop it.” So she traded in her cuffs for a full-time keyboard. She loves to hear from her readers.
