1--What is the title of your latest release?

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S SCHEME

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

All the world's a stage, but it may be curtains for bookbinder Quinn Caine’s brother if she can't bring the lights down on an actor's killer, in this latest cozy mystery.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

This whole series is a love letter to my adopted hometown, Vienna, Virginia.

4--Would you hang out with your sleuth in real life?

There are two of them – a book lover and a rebellious nun - and I’d totally hang with them both.

5--What are three words that describe your sleuth?

For Quinn? Observant, loyal, and evolving. For Sister Daria? Hilarious, irreverent, and lonely.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

Well, this nice Jewish girl learned all about the process of becoming a nun. Plus, I learned about book binding.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I edit as I go.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Foodie implies high end, but honestly a really good fried chicken is an underrated thing of beauty. As are fried pickles.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

Filled floor to ceiling with books and quirky collectibles.

10--Who is an author you admire?

So many but off the top of my head? Rebecca Makkai.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Yes, and some will think it’s a strange choice, but it was The Gift of Fear by: Gavin DeBecker.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

My agent, Jill Marsal, actually emailed me – but followed it up with a congratulations call later. This series was one we crafted the premise for together – so it was a shared victory.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

It depends on my mood, to be honest. These days I’m into memoirs.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

I’m a sucker for any version of Pride and Prejudice.

15--What is your favorite season?

Spring. It’s all about the thawing after a cold winter. Something magical about the rebirth of everything.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I tell people not to make a fuss, but guess what? I want the fuss. It doesn’t have to be pricey. Just thoughtful.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

My latest favorite podcast is Israel Story – it’s their version of This American Life.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

It changes with the weather. Right now, I’m craving Mexican.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I’m either listening to my records, making art, or napping. I love a good nap.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

Aside from this series, I’m percolating a few different ideas – all with edge.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S SCHEME by Harper Kincaid

A Midsummer Night's Scheme

Perfect for fans of Jenn McKinlay and Kate Carlisle, Harper Kincaid's second installment in the Bookbinding mysteries is sure to charm.
All the world's a stage, but it may be curtains for bookbinder Quinn Victoria Caine if she can't bring the lights down on an actor's killer .

Chad Hurt is Vienna, Virginia's Local Boy Made Good. Back in the day, Chad was mostly known for breaking female hearts, but now he's a big-time Broadway actor. Now, he's back in Vienna, onstage on the Town Green, to announce the glitzy new theater he's about to build in town. But after the announcement, as he gets in his car to leave, he's killed by a sackful of snakes someone's stashed in the back seat.

Chad's only mourner is his blue Burmese kitten, Cindy Clawford. She wanders into the quaint Prose & Scones bookshop and strikes up a friendship with the resident German shepherd, Ruff Barker Ginsburg. So RBG's dog-mom, bookbinder Quinn Victoria Caine, feels compelled to search for Chad's killer.

Blood and revenge are hammering in someone's head, but whose? Is the culprit one of the scores of women done wrong? Could it be Quinn's fireman brother, Bash, who was Chad's main competitor for town Lothario? When Bash becomes a target--black widow spiders tucked into his clothes--Quinn and RBG (with Cindy riding on his back) set aside their Hamlet-esque indecision and spring into action. But the only evidence is a scrap of paper bearing a vengeful Shakespeare quote. Can Quinn track down the one who seeks a pound of flesh, or will she face the sleep of death?

About Harper Kincaid

Harper Kincaid

A multi-genre talent, Harper Kincaid first became known for her romantic comedies and suspense novels for Entangled Publishing and Samhain Publishing, as well as her creative nonfiction contributions in the #1 Amazon feminist anthology, You Do You for People I Want to Punch in the Throat Media along with the online media conglomerate, Medium.

Her upcoming release has Ms. Kincaid embracing her love for quirky heroines in unpredictable messes in her debut cozy mystery, To Kill a Mocking Girl, with Crooked Lane Press. Publisher’s Weekly touts “Smooth prose, realistic characters, a budding romance, and not too much silliness makes this cozy a winner. Tantalizing recipes round out the volume.”

Ms. Kincaid earned her master’s degree in gender history and another in clinical/macro social work. When not writing, she adores listening to lo-fi, indie complaint rock played on vinyl, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings, and making those close to her laugh ‘til they snort. She is a self-admitted change junkie but is now happily settled in the cutest lil town of Vienna, Virginia, with her wife-whisperer husband, their two daughters, and Q-TiP, a fancy-pants pup with a badass name.
