1--What is the title of your latest release?

ONCE UPON A DECEMBER

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Astra visits the Milwaukee Christmas Market every year with her closest friends. This time, she meets Jack, a familiar and attractive baker. What she doesn’t remember is that she has met him many times over the past 15 years but has forgotten because Jack’s bakery is in a magical place where time works differently, and visitors have no memories of it. But this year, she starts to remember…

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Once the idea for a magical Christmas market popped into my head, I knew I had to put it in downtown Milwaukee.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Absolutely! Astra is a librarian, so we could talk books for days!

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Sweet, strong, unforgettable.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

That kringles (a danish pastry) were originally in a pretzel shape but evolved into an oval when Danish bakers realized everyone’s favorite parts were the sections with the most filling. An oval design allows every bite to have the same amount of delicious filling.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I generally don’t edit when I’m done with the first, very sloppy first draft. However, I will leave myself notes as edit ideas come to me, so I don’t forget them when I start editing.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Pie and ice cream

9--Describe your writing space/office!

Messy! I have too many books (on multiple bookshelves and in many towering stacks), stacks of paper, pens, sharpies, and notebooks full of half-baked ideas.

10--Who is an author you admire?

Elena Ferrante. I’ve actually never read any of her (or his!) books—but I envy the brilliance of writing anonymously. She could be anyone!

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien. My oldest sister read it to me when I was young, and books have had my soul since.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

N/A

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Fantasy with romantic elements, followed closely by historical romance.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

I have so many, but a recent favorite was THE LOST CITY with Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and Daniel Radcliffe (who is a delightful villain). Everything about this movie made me smile.

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall. All other answers are wrong.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Sleeping late, a yummy dinner with my family, and pie and ice cream. I really like pie and ice cream.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

So many! I’m currently reading the Sandman graphic novels and they are phenomenal. I’m deep into Game of Thrones: The House of the Dragon and She-Hulk.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Homestyle French cuisine where there are plenty of yummy sauces begging to be sopped up with fresh French bread.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Currently I’m on my local library’s board of directors and am trying to fend off local book-banners who want to limit the books in our collections. I’m doing a lot of research on the topic. Take this as a reminder to keep an eye on what is happening on your local school/library/government boards and make your voice heard!

20--What can readers expect from you next?

My current interest is an idea that’s even more magical.

ONCE UPON A DECEMBER by Amy E. Reichert

Once Upon a December

With a name like Astra Noel Snow, holiday spirit isn’t just a seasonal specialty—it’s a way of life. But after a stinging divorce, Astra’s yearly trip to the Milwaukee Christmas market takes on a whole new meaning. She’s ready to eat, drink, and be merry, especially with the handsome stranger who saves the best kringle for her at his family bakery.

For Jack Clausen, the Julemarked with its snowy lights and charming shops stays the same, while the world outside the joyful street changes, magically leaping from one December to the next every four weeks. He’s never minded living this charmed existence until Astra shows him the life he’s been missing outside of the festive red brick alley.

After a swoon-worthy series of dates, some Yuletide magic, and the unexpected glow of new love, Astra and Jack must decide whether this relationship can weather all seasons, or if what they’re feeling is as ephemeral as marshmallows in a mug of hot cocoa.

About Amy E. Reichert

Amy E. Reichert

Amy Reichert earned her MA in Literature from Marquette University, and honed her writing and editing skills as a technical writer (which is exactly as exciting as it sounds). As a newly minted member of the local library board, she loves helping readers find new books to love. She’s a life-long Wisconsin resident with (allegedly) a very noticeable accent, a patient husband, and two too-smart-for-their-own-good kids. When time allows, she loves to read, collect more cookbooks than she could possibly use, and test the limits of her DVR.
