1)  Authors (at least this author) loves hearing from readers. The beautiful thing about writing a book is that not only do we get to share a story that’s been consuming us for so long, but we also get to connect with new people.  Shortly after writing my first novel, The Hope of Azure Springs, I received a message from a young woman telling me how the story helped to answer a question that had plagued her for years. I wanted to cry! All the work that had gone into my book felt worth it.

2)  We feel vulnerable sharing our stories with you. Even though we can’t wait for our stories to go out into the wild, we also feel afraid. We know our stories might be ripped apart, trampled on and forgotten and then all that work would equate to what? Even more than feeling vulnerable about sales we feel that a part of ourselves are on display. The fight scene, the kissing scene, the unsavory internal thoughts of our characters are all a product of our imagination and now our imaginations are in print and we worry what you’ll think about us and our writing.

3)  We lost a lot of sleep working on our books and hope you will lose a little reading it. When we hear that you couldn’t put it down, we want to jump up and down and do the happy dance! When you say you cried over the characters, we feel a huge sense of victory. Most likely we cried writing it and your tears are sweet validation that our beloved characters resonated with you too.

4)  Our books are full of “Easter Eggs” that most people won’t pick up on. Our children’s names are scattered throughout, special dates, conversations we’ve overheard are woven in and sentimental food is mentioned. Little pieces of us are written into our books. You’re likely getting to know the author without even knowing you are.

5)  We feel honored and awed that there are readers out there taking time out of their busy lives to read our books. It’s a gift to get to share stories with you, to get to come into your homes and lives in the form of words and we try to never forget that. In the rush of deadlines and throws of edits, it’s you, the reader, that makes it worth it.

YOURS TRULY, THOMAS by Rachel Fordham

Yours Truly, Thomas

For three years, Penny Ercanbeck has been opening other people's mail. Dead ends are a reality for clerks at the Dead Letter Office. Still she dreams of something more--a bit of intrigue, a taste of romance, or at least a touch less loneliness. When a letter from a brokenhearted man to his one true love falls into her hands, Penny seizes this chance to do something heroic. It becomes her mission to place this lost letter into the hands of its intended recipient.

Thomas left his former life with no intention of ending up in Azure Springs, Iowa. He certainly didn't expect a happy ending after what he had done. All he wanted to do was run and never look back. In a moment of desperation, he began to write, never really expecting a reply.

When Penny's undertaking leads her to the intriguing man who touched her soul with his words, everything grows more complicated. She wants to find the rightful owner of the letter and yet she finds herself caring--perhaps too much--for the one who wrote it.

Inspirational Historical | Romance Historical [Revell, On Sale: July 2, 2019, Paperback / e-Book, ISBN: 9780800735388 / eISBN: 9781493417865]

Ever wonder what happens to love letters lost in the mail?

About Rachel Fordham

Rachel Fordham

Rachel Fordham has long been fascinated by all things historical or in the words of her children "old stuff". Often the historical trivia she discovers is woven into her children's bedtime tales. Despite her love for good stories she didn't attempt writing a novel until her husband challenged her to do so (and now she's so glad he did). Since that time she's often been found typing or researching while her youngest child naps or frantically writing plot twists while she waits in the school pick-up line. In addition to her passion for storytelling she enjoys reading, being outdoors and seeing new places. Rachel lives with her husband and children on an island in Washington state.
