Oberon Wonch | Things I Love About Medieval Knights

The Top 5 :: Win a copy of COME TO ME

twitter

  1. They follow a code of honor.
As early as antiquity, a warrior would sacrifice his own needs and desires, even his life, for something bigger than he was (such as a king, a city, a god.) During the Middle Ages in Western Europe, the chivalric code was formalized, directing a knight to place his liege, God, or the Church above himself. A knight was obliged to be always courageous, courteous to everyone, and to succor those weaker or less fortunate than he.
  2. They’re physically fit and agile.
And how! That heavy chain mail they wore and the weapons they wielded served as the barbells and weight machines of the Middle Ages. Riding powerful horses into battle, sparring daily with fellow knights, and eating a diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and proteins with little fat and no refined sugar helped build a marvelous specimen of a man.
  3. They know how to do stuff, like make weapons out of what’s at hand and tan leather for clothing.
Just by the virtue of living in the pre-industrial age, knights had to make things that we would run out to the store for. Generally speaking, a man living in 11th century England would know how to fix a cart wheel, thatch a roof, make bricks, handle livestock, kill and dress a deer, then make boots out of the skin and a meal out of the meat. He could build a fire and survive a winter in the woods. Having a knight around the house would be like having a hot handyman around!
  4. They’re literate and make good leaders.
Knights usually knew how to read and write and play music. Like any military commander, a knight knew how to win the trust of his vassals and servants and how to send his soldiers into battle with the least loss of life. He knew how to defend his property and family against attackers. Once he had achieved a level of success or inherited his family’s property, he managed entire fiefdoms, estates, and farms much like a modern-day CEO runs a company.
  5. They’re self-confident and self-reliant.
Because a knight’s station in life gave him purpose and his deeds often brought the accolades of his liege along with the loyalty of his vassals, because he could usually make what he needed when he needed it, a knight was fearless and self-assured. Now that’s what sexy is all about!

Drogo’s fascinating captive is nothing like he anticipated. Outspoken but innocent, Isabel reluctantly submits to Drogo's tutoring in the spymaster's craft, as well as the art of making love. About Oberon Wonch

Oberon Wonch

Oberon Wonch has engaged in a love affair with books for as long as she can remember. Penning her own stories from an early age, she later earned a degree in World Literature while studying several languages--all in order to learn what makes a tale endure the ages, but really just to read more books. Her very favorite stories--both to read and write--are those that celebrate the happily-ever-after.

An avid gardener and armchair archaeologist, she grew up in northeast Ohio but now lives in Indiana with her college sweetheart husband and two very joyful little dogs. She enjoys connecting with readers.

Medieval romance is pretty awesome – the only tiny-teeny
problem is the language (which is why I haven’t read as
many romances as I would have liked to do). Anyhow i am
looking forward to read this one ^_^

I know we still have Knights in shining armor! Hard to
find, but better keep them when you do!
Mine pampers me when sick and don`t let that gruff exterior
fool you. He is first for holding a sick child when Mom
catches a few needed winks herself.

Knights have a code.
(Susan Jang 8:46pm January 31, 2017)

Knights were leaders and men that you could look up to and respect.
(Barbara Ryan 9:14pm January 31, 2017)

Haven't read a lot of that time period but they were probably
well trusted and took their jobs seriously. For the most part,
they were honorable.
(Nancy Luebke 11:42pm January 31, 2017)

Interesting book.
