“Language!”
There are so many things to love about the Avengers movies. Epic battles, awesome
heroes, internal conflict and friendships built on teamwork. The plots are always
strong, the dialogue fabulous and the emotional balance extremely well done. But,
seriously, I’m pretty sure whatever elements we love to watch, the bottom line is
that it’s all about the heroes.
I love these heroes! They are strong, sexy and powerful (I’m including the Black
Widow in that assessment, of course). They defy the odds, they do what needs to be
done, and, of course, they are great at doing it. Those that have found
relationships have found them with strong women who can not only handle these
powerful men, but they understand their dedication to the cause.
These are all things I try to remember and bring to the stories in my Sexy
SEAL series. My heroes aren’t superheroes, but they are strong, sexy and
powerful. They, too, do what needs to be done and do it well. They are dedicated
to serving their country and keeping people safe. And while none of them wear
spandex, they do look damned good in their uniforms.
Given that I’ve seen and adore all of these superheroes movies (and that Winter
Soldier is my current non-Avenger movie), and that I write military heroes, I feel
like Captain America should be my favorite Avenger. He’s military, he’s a soldier,
he gives his all for his country. He wanted to serve SO much that he was willing
to go through a miserably painful process in order to do so. Sort of like BUDs
training for the SEALs, with their infamous Hell Week. He’s the ultimate soldier.
But I just can’t love him. (Sorry Chris Evans fans!)
Don’t get me wrong. I like Captain America. He’s a great character and his growth
arc has been fabulous to watch. But I’m more attracted to Thor for his looks,
Hawkeye for his attitude and Ironman for his humor. And because all three of them
have a bad boy edge.
I love that bad boy edge. It’s such a contrast to the heroism that it makes the
risks they take, the sacrifices they make all the more apparent. Because while for
some (Like the sexy Captain) heroism is who they are-it’s an integral part of their
personality, others have to work at it.
Good boys do the right thing automatically, its hardwired into their DNA. Bad
boys, though? They have to move barriers to be the hero. Ironman is inherently
selfish but he puts that aside to be the hero. Thor is from another world, but he
fights for ours. And Hulk? Oh, that poor guy has major challenges with his bad
boy side, doesn’t he?
All heroes are awesome. But bad boys? They have a little extra dimension. Despite
their super powers, they aren’t perfect. They’re flawed. And usually, flawed in a
very sexy way. Bad boys break the rules, they play outside of the box. In life,
in their super actions, and I’ll bet, in bed. Or more likely, against a wall, in
the back of a limo, over the edge of a lab desk. They push the envelope in every
way. And that, I think, is the biggest appeal of bad boys.
Which brings me back to the first line in this post: “Language,” Captain America
chides when Ironman cusses during the heat of battle.
Yeah. Captain America is hot, but I’d rather have one of the bad boy heroes.
Because, bottom line? If all those bad guys were trying to kill me, I’d be
cussing, too.

Subject: Navy SEAL Gabriel Thorne
Mission: Initiate Operation: Romance - and prove that one night isn't
enough!
Explosives expert and Navy SEAL Gabriel "Romeo" Thorne makes his living tempting
fate. Pushing the limits. So far, he's never lost—especially when it comes to
women. That is, until his best friend's wedding, where Gabriel is suddenly face-to-
face—and deliciously body-to-body—with the one woman hot enough to detonate his
self-control.
Tessa Monroe is used to being in control with men. Gabriel, on the other hand, is
pretty much her sex kryptonite. Hard, gorgeous, dark-eyed kryptonite. Even as her
defenses whisper "danger," lust demands she take her pleasure with him and then
run. Now they're skirting the edge of an explosive attraction - where one wrong
move could mean disaster.
