Now that The Golden Compass is finally showing at theaters, a swarm of
teenagers are expected to purchase Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials
trilogy, a fantasy story about children who visit other dimensions similar to
ours. But what other books will piggyback on the success of the film?
One book in particular is starting to get a lot of buzz. Paraworld Zero, the first
young adult novel in the Parallel Worlds series by Matthew Peterson, is
scheduled to be released in January by Blue Works, a fairly large imprint of
Windstorm Creative. With all this talk about parallel worlds and the earlier
finale of Harry Potter, teenagers are sure to love Paraworld Zero, especially
with its more upbeat tone.
One successful fantasy writer, Diana Pharaoh Francis (the Path and Crosspointe
series), stated that Peterson's book has the "exciting action of Star Wars
with the humor of Napoleon Dynamite... Paraworld Zero has strong potential to
be popular among readers."
Peterson's novel also received the Flamingnet TOP CHOICE Award last month with
one reviewer stating that the new book is "a must read for anyone who loves
fantasy and for anyone who loves a good adventure/coming-of-age novel."
But can Windstorm deliver before The Golden Compass craze dies out? Early
indications show that Paraworld Zero is aligned perfectly to ride the wave of
excitement The Golden Compass is creating. Upcoming ads in major publications
like The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal are
bound to keep the fire burning for Matthew Peterson’s debut novel. This is one
book to keep your eye out for.
