YAY! Itโs time to celebrate! The second book in my New Jersey Ice Cats
series, A PERFECT
TRADE, is out!
As regular visitors to my blog posts here know, this is Tru and Jennyโs story.
Readers first met this couple in A PERFECT
DISTRACTION and it was clear from their first interaction, that
there was a problem between them. Here is a brief reminder.
In this scene, Maggie meets Jenny for the first time at an Ice Catsโ team dinner:
โHello, gentlemen.โ A throaty voice curled around them, like the
tendrils of
smoke from a vampโs cigarette in a film noir.Maggie recognized the blondeโJenny, queen of the puck bunnies. The players
welcomed her with enthusiasm as she walked around the table greeting them.โIce Man. Chance. Blade.โ Each name was accompanied by a touch, a brush
against a shoulder, a tap on the arm. โMad Dog.โVlad grinned as she reached him. โRemember me, Jenny?โโDetroit. The natural hat trick.โ Her eyes twinkled. โYou scored the overtime
winner with fourteen seconds left.โโA memorable night.โ From the Russianโs tone, he didnโt mean the goal.Jenny laughed. She trailed a French-tipped finger along his shoulder, then
moved on. โJuergen Ingemar. I havenโt had the pleasure.โโWe must put that right.โ He wasnโt talking about hockey, either. The woman was amazingly self-confident. She spoke easily to the players,
alternately teasing and flirting. How would she treat Jake with Maggie there?
Maggieโs stomach gave a little twist. She told herself not to be silly. Itโs not
like there was anything between her and Jake. Yet.Jenny dropped a kiss on Ikeโs head. โYou dropped too early on that wrister.โโI know.โ He sighed. โI thought he was going five-hole.โโPortnoy canโt get his shot off quickly enough to get it through your legs.
He always roofs it.โIke tilted his head. โReally?โโWatch game tape.โ There was her supreme confidence again.โI will. Thanks.โโMy pleasure.โโTruman.โ Clipped, cold. Dismissive.Maggie was surprised when Jenny moved past Tru with no smile, touch or
banter.โJenny.โ The easygoing man shifted in his seat, his attention focused with
rigid determination on the burrito platter.
As A PERFECT
TRADE opens, we see that things are no better between these former high
school sweethearts:
Jenny damned the way her pulse hitched. When would her traitorous
body learn
that she was no longer interยญested in the good-looking defenseman? Hadnโt been
for thirteen years. Other women might drool over the way his broad shoulders
filled out his black, long-sleeved shirt and how his faded jeans fit his
muscular thighs, but sheโd learned the hard way not to trust his pretty
packaging. She could resist those high, Slavic cheekbones and that rugged jaw,
too. Her mom had always said โhandsome is, as handsome does.โThat made Tru as ugly as sin.โI saw the news aboutโฆhim,โ Tru said quietly. โAre you okay?โFor a moment, the protective concern in his green eyes touched her. Warmed
her. As it had the day theyโd met in first grade. Heโd had her back when sheโd
squared off against the class bully over her lunch money. Heโd always had her
back. Until the night he hadnโt.The warmth vanished, leaving frost in its place. โIโm fine.โโIf you need anythingโฆโShe cut him off. โYouโve done more than enough.โโIโm sorry.โ Red tinged his cheeks and rose up his neck. โMore than youโll
ever know.โโSo youโve said.โ But an apology couldnโt fix the damage heโd done.
Now, readers finally get to find out what happened in Tru and Jennyโs past and
to see if they can have a future together.
I love second chance romances, because I believe some people really are destined
to be together. Whether itโs the arrogance of youth or the naivetรฉ of a first
relationship, characters can make stupid mistakes -- often with the best of
intentions -- that cost them the one they love. So itโs fun to see these
characters getting the opportunity for a do-over.
A win-win negotiation? Truman "Tru" Jelinek's life is pretty much off the rails. With his
professional hockey career on thin ice, and his personal life falling apart,
he's ready to implement some serious changes. Helping Jenny Martinโthe only girl
he's ever lovedโmake her dreams a reality is a good place to start. There's just one problem: Jenny doesn't want his help. She barely wants to
speak to him. But Tru is prepared to negotiate a deal that even Jenny can't
refuse. As trading favors turns into sharing passion, he has to face the truth
that when it comes to Jenny, the game is far from over.Do you like second chance romances? Have you ever given someone who hurt you
badly a second chance? Did it work out or was it a mistake?

Who of us hasn't looked back at a first love that didn't last and wondered "What if?". (Dana Wong 4:46pm July 2, 2014)
That's so true, Donna. And sometimes you think 'phew that was a lucky escape!' ;) (Anna Sugden 6:06pm July 2, 2014)
I love second chance romances, but I think it must be really hard to forgive someone who has hurt you before. (Cheryl Castings 8:41pm July 2, 2014)
It is indeed, Cheryl. Hopefully in Tru and Jenny's case, the journey to forgiveness is a believable one. :) (Anna Sugden 8:40am July 3, 2014)
Why else do we read romance, Anna? :) (Anna Sugden 8:40am July 3, 2014)
The first time I laid eyes on the man that I married, I knew that was going to be our destiny. The sad part was that he didn't know my true feelings, and we went our separate ways for a few years. All of those years, I still held a torch for him, and through a mutual friend, who ran into him, we got back together. When he proposed to me, I was over the moon!! We've been together now for 31 years, so even though I can never bring back the years we missed, it gave me a chance to not only grow up a bit, but also to grow as a person. It was for the best that way, I suppose, and I think he learned to appreciate me that much more, too!! Since I'm a lover at heart, I have to believe in love in all forms - be it first love, second love, but after that, I tend to question it a little!! lol Have a great week!! I know your book is going to be great!! (Peggy Roberson 10:55am July 3, 2014)
What a lovely story, Peggy! Doc Cambridge was my best friend before he became my hubby, so I believe in love in all forms too. Thanks so much - have a great holiday! (Anna Sugden 8:40am July 4, 2014)
I would love to have a second chance but it has never came. I do wonder about the what ifs. (Kai Wong 3:49pm July 4, 2014)
Thanks for stopping by, Kai! I wish for you to have a second chance. Or a wonderful first chance that makes it clear why that second chance never came. (Anna Sugden 5:24am July 5, 2014)
I love reading about second-chance romances, but would have a hard time forgiving someone for hurting me. (Carol Woodruff 7:34pm July 5, 2014)
