This fall, ABC-TV is airing Women's Murder Club, based on a series of
books written by James
Patterson, with actress Angie Harmon playing the title role of
Det. Lindsay Boxer. It is currently scheduled to run for 13 episodes. I've seen
several installments of the show and enjoyed them. We'll see what the critics
have to say about Women's Murder Club and whether it will continue
until
the end of the season. A television drama that I really like a lot and never
miss is Fox-TV's Bones, with characters based on novels written by Kathy Reichs.
Allen and I took the motor home to Colorado in October and enjoyed the fall
colors and spectacular scenery around Loveland, Estes Park, Rocky Mountain
National Park and the surrounding area. It was beautiful. We even saw snow in
the higher elevations. I got to do some reading on our long drives across
Kansas, which included several ARCs for reviewing, as well as one personal book
I want to recommend -- Lois Greiman's UNMANNED (Dell), which went on sale October 30, 2007. What a
fun and witty story, and a wonderful addition to this quirky mystery series.
Lately, a big promo idea used by authors has been video trailers for their
books. Some are very classy, some a bit graphic, but I got a really big laugh
out of the one for Julianne MacLean's IN MY WILDEST DREAMS
(Avon, 10/30/07). It has both a short version (funny) and a longer Director's
Cut (hiliarious). You have to check this one out!
As the weather gets cooler and we want to stay in more, you should be able
to
find ample reading material in the following releases set for this month.
Stephanie
Rowe
continues her hilarious Immortally Sexy series November 1, 2007, with SEX AND THE IMMORTAL BAD
BOY (Warner Forever). Paige has finally left her boss from Hell --
Satan -- who unfortunately cursed her with losing her soul. It seems the only
way she can keep from dying is to skinny dip in one of Heaven's moats -- which
have some pretty strong defenses against that happening. Enter Jed, a shadow
warrior who's on a fast track to Hell...so what does he have to lose if he
helps
Paige? It seems plenty, but what a hot, sexy ride it will be for both of
them.

Nora
Roberts
is currently working on a new trilogy called The Sign of Seven, which starts
November 27, 2007 with the release of BLOOD BROTHERS (Jove).
The setting is a fictional place she's based loosely on Boonsboro, Maryland, a
town not far from where she lives. In Hawkins Hollow, three best friends share
the same birthday, 7/7/77. The evening before turning 10, they sneak into the
woods for a sleepover. But their celebration turns into a night of horror as
the blood brother oath they take unleashes a 300-year curse. For the past 21
years, Cal Hawkins and his friends have seen their town plagued by a week of
unexplainable evil events twice -- every seven years. With the clock winding
down on the third set of seven years, someone else has taken an interest in the
town's folklore. Quinn, a well-known scholar of local legends, is delving into
the mystery despite Cal's protests. But when the first signs of evil appear
months early, Cal must do whatever it takes to protect the town, as well as his
heart. Subsequent titles will include THE HOLLOW, set for release
May 2008, and THE PAGAN in December 2008.
Linnea
Sinclair's November 27, 2007, paranormal release, THE DOWN HOME ZOMBIE
BLUES (Bantam Spectra), features a new setting for this author: Earth.
While Linnea's science fiction romances are set on starships and space
stations, this new book takes place in tropical Bahia Vista, Florida. Sexy
homicide detective Theo Petrakos is anticipating a quiet Christmas when he's
assigned a case involving a mummified body and a very unusual laptop computer.
Enter Guardian Force Commander Jorie Mikkalah, who needs to retrieve that
computer undetected by Theo AND the zombies, biomechanical intergalactic
monsters who consider humans tasty snacks.
November 27, 2007, is the release date of the third installment in Madelyn Alt's
Bewitching Mysteries series, HEX MARKS THE SPOT (Berkley Prime Crime). Madelyn describes
her unique books this way, "The Bewitching Mysteries feature small- town
single-girl and fledgling empath Maggie O'Neill, her witchy boss, and her
circle of ghost hunting friends, the N.I.G.H.T.S., as they investigate
increasing levels of paranormal disturbance -- not to mention a series of
unrelated murders -- in Maggie's hometown of Stony Mill, Indiana."
Another November 27, 2007, release is Connie Mason's
historical romance THE
PRICE OF PLEASURE (Leisure). Though it takes place mostly in England,
the first few chapters are set in a French prison during the Revolution. Close
to death, an English operative is rescued by a mysterious woman dubbed the
Black Widow by the other prisoners. After she nurses him back to health, they
flee to London where many surprises are in store for both of them. Connie is
currently working on her next book, VIKING WARRIOR, set in Norway and Denmark.
In August, Connie's husband of 57 years unexpectedly died. She says she's still
mourning his loss. We extend our deepest condolences to Connie.
On sale December 1, 2007, will be THE MORCAI BATTALION (Luna hardcover) by Diana Palmer. This
sci-fi fantasy was originally published in 1980 by Manor Books and written
under Diana's pseudonym Susan S. Kyle. This new version has been updated
to almost twice its original length. She describes the plot as, "A rag-tag
band of humans from the Terravegan colonies fights the Rojok invaders and their
ship is destroyed. Rescued by the Centaurian commander of the terror-inspiring
Holconcom, the humans must learn to live with their hostile alien counterparts
when they are captured by the Rojoks and thrown into the galaxy's most horrible
prison camp. The female exobiologist has to save the life of the alien
commander in order to save her captain, her comrades and herself."
Bonnie Vanak
is
starting a new venture by writing two paranormals for Silhouette's Nocturne
line. The first book, titled THE EMPATH and set
for
release December 1, 2007, is
about a veterinarian who's a gentle-natured creature until she's seduced by an
embittered warrior werewolf. He has to mate with her and turn her into a killer
to destroy the shapeshifters destroying his pack. The second book will be a
sequel to the first. Bonnie is also writing two more Egyptian historicals for
Dorchester. THE SCORPION & THE SEDUCER is the story of Jasmine,
Badra's
daughter, who punched out Tommy in THE PANTHER & THE PYRAMID. The book is a Romeo & Juliet type
tale of forbidden love. Tommy, known now as Mac and a wealthy earl's son, is
pressured to marry a blue-blooded aristocrat, but he falls in love with
Jasmine. Jasmine, scorned by English high society for her Egyptian heritage,
has desperately tried fitting into their world. This prolific author also
writes erotic romance for Ellora's Cave under the name Blair Valentine.
As friends and family gather for the Thanksgiving holiday, I hope all of you
have many things to be thankful for and much to celebrate.
Until next month...Tanzey
