Daisy Harris | Studenstein: A Monster in Bed
September 30, 2011
I love book with a simple premise. In fact my favorite stories are erotic
novellas--racy little books with bold characters and clear conflicts. It was
with this in mind that I set out to create the second book in my Love-Bots
series, Studenstein. My love-bots are re-animated corpses whose nervous systems have been wired for
specific purposes. They are soldiers, lab rats, and sex slaves. They don’t
decompose--this is the future after all! But they do eat brains... Well, organ
meats, though generally not straight from the source. The best feature of Love-Bots (or "steins" as they’re more often called) is that
they can be anything! A genius, a dutiful wife, an unwavering assassin. My
characters are a veritable Breakfast Club of the undead. Within this wacky world of dreams and depravity, is Royce Harden--a male sex
slave built to be any woman (or man’s) dream lover. He’s gorgeous, sexy, and a
non-stop flirt. Of all the heroes I’ve written, Royce most stole my heart. He’s
just so darn adorable! It’s impossible not to fall in love with him. Unless, of course, you’re my heroine Shani. Scarred from her own past in the
undead sex trade, she’s immune to Royce’s sex appeal. At least at first. The best part of writing a book like this--one that centers on a simple
conflict--is that a writer can toy with layers of meaning. Sure Royce is
perfect, but at the same time he wants to remain in captivity. His denial makes
him horribly flawed, despite all the lovely facets that make him drool-worthy. He’s a lovely bundle of contradictions--ideal, but a mess; sweet, but horribly
vain; and caring, but frightened to hope. Royce may be a monster, but he’ll have
you asking, "Where can I buy one of these guys for my own?" Interested in more? Check out www.thedaisyharris.com for exclusive excerpts!

Royce sounds awefully human, I think we all have a duality to us. A perfectionist can be perfect yet suffer low self esteem, a compassionate person at work can be abusive at home, you can be a whore in the bedroom and a chef in the kitchen, and the idea that he is frightened to hope- how human and how often in life do we go through that. He sounds like a delightful character. Thank you for creating him. (Carla Carlson 4:10pm September 30, 2011)
You have a wonderful thought process, and I can't wait to read your book!! I must confess I've never heard of you until today, but then again, I've been living under a rock for a while!! lol Anyway, the story line sounds like a real page-turner, and I'm sure it's one that will keep me warm, now that it's getting cold here in the North. Thank you for the great posting today. I think the cover of the book is enough to get the warming started as well!! Enjoy your weekend!! (Peggy Roberson 5:16pm September 30, 2011)
Simplicity I can understand. You have complicated characters that are multi-dimensional. (Alyson Widen 6:27pm September 30, 2011)
Carla- I totally agree! In fact, I think it's the duality, and especially the exploration of that duality, that makes us most human. I love exploring the dark side of positive attributes—like the heroine with strong convictions who can sometimes border on judgmental, or a hero who'd so accommodating that he ends up alienating those he cares about. Glad you liked the idea and hope to see you around the boards!
Peggy— Glad to (virtually) meet you! I live in Seattle, so it's not that cold here quite yet. :) Hope Royce keeps you warm at night like he did for the months I wrote the story.
Alyson—Thanks for commenting. I think all good stories pair the simple with the complex. After all, people are often easy to read, but under the surface they're a mess of conflicting emotions.
Thanks all who read and commented on my first Fresh Fiction post!

oh my, what wonderful wicked fun.
Yes, I believe in my younger single days I certainly would have tried to find out where I can sign up for one of those. ;^) (Heidi Durham 8:37pm October 2, 2011)
