What is the title of your latest release?
GUILTY AS CHARMED
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
When a dinner party goes murderously wrong, the detective inspector’s job is clear: hunt down his suspect’s secrets and catch her by the tail. But who will save the inspector when the hostess proves more cat than mouse?
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
A romantic historical mystery must include dark cobblestone streets, and a cozy alliteratively named house - a.k.a. a suspicious house in London. Where else would the story take place? A smuggler’s ship? (That would be book two.)
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Lady Hannah Harling is facetious, poised, and delivers insults like an expert cricket bowler. I’m not only hanging out with her, I’m trading book recommendations and texting her cat videos.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Loyal. Protective. Gruff.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
Don’t call your sister at six am on a Saturday when inspiration strikes. Enthusiasm directly correlates with the number of hours slept.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
Yes, to both! I alternate between typing on the computer and writing everything long hand. If the first, I will wait until the end to edit. If the latter, I will scribble and rewrite until my journal looks like spy code.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Dubai chocolate and shredded Colby Jack cheese. Don’t ask me how the flavor profile works, but it does.
Describe your writing space/office!
Dragons hoard treasure. I hoard books, houseplants, and sticky notes.
Who is an author you admire?
Ali Hazelwood proves that nerds have and always will be sexy.
Is there a book that changed your life?
Jude Deveraux’s A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR (time travel, sword-wielding heroes, and villain redemption). I was thirteen, impressionable, and hooked from page one.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
There was jumping and squealing - I hit a pitch that only dogs can hear - and then I promptly sat down and freaked out.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romance or anything funny. Get me to crack up in the first few pages, and I’ll crash land on a frozen planet or battle my way out of a zombie apocalypse.
What’s your favorite movie?
Persuasion. 1995 version. “I am half agony. Half hope.” Excuse me while I clutch my aching chest and swoon.
What is your favorite season?
Here’s a hint: I love a good sweater and hot tea combo.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
The same way I like my books: with jokes, the perfect partner, and a whole chocolate cake.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Voicemails for Isabelle. Disclaimer: Your sobbing should stop after the first ten minutes of play.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
What do Japanese, Indian, and Thai cuisine have in common? Curry.
What do you do when you have free time?
In my free time, I paint, draw…plot murder. (Strictly for writing purposes.)
What can readers expect from you next?
The countdown has begun for my Rebels and Romance series. Book one, THE INVENTOR’S SHOWSTOPPER follows an inventor who must convince his government he is a happy, dedicated husband to avoid recruitment into a new kind of war. Too bad he’s not married. Coming this November! And don’t forget book two in my Inspectors of Scotland Yard series. I’m keeping the love in the family and following a quirky side character from book one to his HEA.

When Charlie Lambert, Scotland Yard's decorated detective chief inspector, receives an anonymous letter detailing a crime scheduled to occur at a dinner party, he knows what he has to do. Infiltrate the party. Apprehend the criminal. Stop the crime before it happens. His prime suspect: the hostess. A lady who's already gotten away with murder once.
Lady Hannah Hilary can't afford to have Detective Inspector Lambert sniffing around her weekly parties‑‑not with so many secrets surrounding her husband's death. But sniff around he does...until his investigation transforms into something far more intimate‑‑and more dangerous‑‑than either anticipated. Hannah can't fall for a man who would see her shackled and imprisoned if he ever learned her secrets. And yet...
As Hannah's past and Charlie's investigation grow ever more entwined, they risk their livelihoods for a chance at a love that should be impossible. But when a deadly third player enters the game, there's more than just their hearts on the line‑it's their lives.

J. M. Diedrich writes romance with humor, spice, and the right amount of breaking and entering. When she’s not writing steamy kissing scenes or driving her characters into life-threatening situations, she’s binge-watching anime. She lives in Minnesota with her husband and two boys.
