What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Halloweentown meets Practical Magic in a Gilmore Girls setting, but make it spicy!
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I love to write all of my books in New Jersey as a born and bred Jersey girl, so it was an easy choice.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Oh, absolutely. Rosie is so fun and silly, and I just know she would have the best book recs. Bonus - she’d bring treats from Violet’s bakery.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Grumpy, quiet, down-bad. Can down-bad be one word?
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I always loved writing grumpy sunshine, but a grump who was really just an anxious introvert was such a new experience and I LOVED the dynamic!
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
For the most part, until I’m done. If I’m stuck, I’ll go to the beginning and start combing through and cleaning up, but editing as I go hasn’t worked for me.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Underbaked chocolate chip cookies, bonus if they also have sprinkles.
Describe your writing space/office!
We actually just finished my office! As much as possible is pink, since that’s my favorite color, and the entire back wall is filled with books - both mine and those of friends! I’m still working on decorating, but the walls are a mix of art, craft projects, and pictures of my kids.
Who is an author you admire?
As a Jersey girl, I think the answer has to be Judy Blume. Forever was such a pivotal book for me, and the way it toed the edge of helping young girl learn about things that were taboo at the time is so amazing.
Is there a book that changed your life?
TIS THE SEASON FOR REVENGE was such a huge turning point in my life. It was such a big and unexpected success, and really made me realize
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I’d been on sub for a while and was in Disney with my best friends (one of whom is my PA!) We had a signing in Orlando the next day and were determined to hit all four parks in one day. While we were in a gondola, my agent told me she needed my most up-to-date number because we had interest, but the editor was going on maternity leave on Monday - it was currently Friday. It was total chaos, but very par for the course for me!
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romance, of course. But specifically, when I’m reading for pleasure, I’m all about romantasy and mafia romance.
What’s your favorite movie?
Legally Blonde is always a classic!
What is your favorite season?
Fall!
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I’m a December baby, born 8 days before Christmas, so it’s usually kind of chaotic over here, especially since I have three kids. Because of that, it’s usually a very low-key night, which is my favorite kind of night.
What’s a recent TV show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Back for Second by Betty Corrello is SO good! I also devoured the Avalon University series.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Chinese food is my go-to!
What do you do when you have free time?
I love a cozy craft. My favorite is needlepoint! There’s nothing better than a cozy craft and an audiobook for an easy night.
