What is the title of your latest release?
OUR WICKED GIFTS
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
The black sheep of the magically gifted Winter dynasty falls for the boy determined to bring her family to their knees and must decide if the Winters are worth saving.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I was inspired by my old hometown of Henley-on-Thames in the UK. Every year, it hosts a famous regatta, and I absolutely love the outfits and the atmosphere. So I figured I’d set a book in a fictional version of the town, with added drama.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Nope, not a chance. Cicely tries to be a good person but she’s kind of…not.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Determined, desperate, conflicted.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
Basajo is a type of Italian blue cheese soaked in wine.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit as I draft, then rewrite the entire book when I’m done. It’s a chaotic process.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Sushi.
Describe your writing space/office!
I recently moved house, so for now my writing space is my kitchen table. I can write anywhere as long as it’s relatively quiet.
Who is an author you admire?
Andrew Joseph White
Is there a book that changed your life?
ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD by Kendare Blake. It was the book that made me realize I really wanted to write YA horror.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I’d been sending my manuscripts to agents on and off for about 10 years and had almost given up when I met my agent through a writing competition. It wasn’t long before she was emailing me to say we had two offers from publishers. My general thoughts at the time were: “Really? Are you sure?”
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Horror.
What’s your favorite movie?
Ready or Not.
What is your favorite season?
Spring.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I usually go out for a meal with my family.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
My writer friends Cynthia Murphy and Georgia Bowers have a Podcast called Delete My Browser History and it’s brilliant.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Thai.
What do you do when you have free time?
I like to explore creepy places and go for long walks in the countryside.
What can readers expect from you next?
