What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
When Ellie is invited into an elite secret society for women, she discovers it isn’t a philanthropic club - it’s a revenge engine built to destroy powerful men who’ve escaped justice. And the woman pulling the strings has a connection to Ellie that could shatter everything she thought she knew. Now Ellie has to decide: protect the life she came from… or become the weapon the society needs.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I spent a lot of time in New York City the last few summers and I think it’s the perfect setting for a psychological thriller. It’s such a diverse setting and so many people are transplants from other places looking to chase their dreams. I love that!
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Absolutely! Ellie comes from privilege but is deeply aware of the people around her.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Defiant. Haunted. Dangerous.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
One thing I learned while writing SOCIETY WOMEN is how thin the line is between justice and vengeance - and how seductive it is to step over it when you believe you’re right. I also realized that readers don’t just tolerate morally gray women anymore - they crave them. We’re living in a time where curated virtue is everywhere. Writing a woman who refuses to be polished or redeemed felt more honest than trying to make her palatable.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I always wait until I’m totally done! I find that writing and editing are two different sides of my brain.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I love good coffee!
Describe your writing space/office!
I only write at my favorite local cafe! There are too many distractions at home for me to write there.
Who is an author you admire?
I love Alice Feeney’s books.
Is there a book that changed your life?
I re-read THE ALCHEMIST by Paulo Coelho regularly - it’s had a big impact on me. I also love WUTHERING HEIGHTS!
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I decided to publish my first book in the winter of 2012, right before Christmas when my youngest was just three months old. I started writing as a hobby after I put her to sleep at night and I haven’t stopped since.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Psychological Thrillers since the time I was in high school. I love the old RL Stine Fear Street Saga books!
What’s your favorite movie?
Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley is my comfort watch!
What is your favorite season?
I live in a beach town on Lake Michigan so I’ll always choose summer!
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Family, friends, food!
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I’ve been enjoying Mare of Easttown lately!
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I love making soups! It’s probably the only thing I’m good at cooking!
What do you do when you have free time?
I love to travel internationally - I went to Portugal this summer and loved it!
