Book Title: MURDER AMONG THE STACKS
Character Name: Abby Jones

How would you describe your family or your childhood?
Oh gosh, my family is small compared to what you might consider a “regular” family, but we were very close knit. My favorite memories as a child are of Christmas, sitting at the table with my Aunt Edna, who would burp Jingle Bells when my mother wasn’t paying attention. I would describe my childhood as content, until Mom passed away when I was in my teens. After that, I moved in with Aunt Edna, and things went from content to crazy—in a mostly good way.

What was your greatest talent?
I have a gift for knowing exactly what type of book a shopper in my bookstore wants to read at any given moment. That guy by the armchair nook? Manga. The woman hovering near the science-fiction section? Dystopian romantasy. Who knew that was a thing, right?

Significant other?
Currently single, thank you very much. That’s what happens when you get your heart steam-rolled by a cheater. Regrets. I have so many regrets. Like not cutting up his ties when I had the chance, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Biggest challenge in relationships?
Cheating. And a lack of scissors on hand when you need them. Please see above.

Where do you live?
In Cranberry Creek! I’m lucky enough to live in this perfect small town in Wisconsin, with gorgeous hiking trails, paved sidewalks, and a mix of coffee shops, antique stores, florists, and restaurants. It’s the kind of place you settle down and start a family. Or open a bookstore.

Do you have any enemies?
People who crack the spines of books. Grr.

How do you feel about the place where you are now? Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly repelled by, in this place?
I adore Cranberry Creek. I love the food and the people, and I’m slowly learning to open up more as a newbie in town. I also like Rose, from the bakery down the street, and there’s cute deputy I’ve seen around town. Not that that matters. Ha.

Do you have children, pets, both, or neither?
Is it possible to have a combination of both in the form of one very rambunctious ginger cat? His name is Reggie, or Sir Reginald Cattington the Third to any peasants who dare not feed him on time.

What do you do for a living?
I run a bookstore! It’s my favorite place to be, but gosh, at this point, you might as well say that I do word searches and drink coffee for a living, and who wouldn’t want that?

Greatest disappointment?
Not moving to Cranberry Creek sooner!

Greatest source of joy?
Reading, word searches, and figuring out puzzles—like solving murder mysteries for instance.

What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?
Word searches, cuddling with Sir Reginald, drinking coffee, eating at the delicious restaurants in town, and watching true crime documentaries or listening to podcasts. I believe puzzles keep the brain healthy.

What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?
I can be both stubborn and shy.

What keeps you awake at night?
Starts with an “m” ends with an “ystery.” And also coffee after three in the afternoon.

What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?
If there was a bucket list of problems to have, mine would be at the top. An author just dropped dead in my bookstore, during the grand opening, and the cops think I’m the one who killed her. Send help.

Is there something that you need or want that you don’t have? For yourself or for someone important to you?
I would love to be accepted as a part of Cranberry Creek. I’m still an outsider. Also, I need to not be accused of murder and wind up in prison for a crime I didn’t commit.

Why don’t you have it? What is in the way?
I don’t fit in because I’m new, and I struggle to open up to people, and this whole dead author in my bookstore business isn’t helping my image. People literally think I murdered her when I did no such thing! And with the sheriff convinced that I’m probably the culprit, I’m out of luck. But my Aunt Edna always used to say that “luck” was just a euphemism for “lazy”. In other words, if the sheriff won’t figure out who murdered the victim of this senseless crime, then I will.
