How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
The book is based on Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
YES. Absolutely all three of them but if I had to pick one, it would be Ichabod “Daddy” Crane.
What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Since I have three, I’ll do them all. Crane: intelligent, domineering, self-assured. Kat: sweet, compassionate, stubborn. Brom: selfless, dependable, brooding
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
That in ye old days, they used to carve turnips for Halloween before carving pumpkins became the norm.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I will always go back and read over the previous chapter I wrote to get me in the frame of mind and I’ll edit as I do that. Then I do another edit when the book is done as a whole.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
scallops! If they’re on the menu at a good seafood restaurant, I’m ordering them.
Describe your writing space/office!
My house was built in 1903 and my office is in the old dining room. It has vintage lights and a fireplace and is done up in a mix of cozy gothic accents

Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
For this series (Hollow and Legend) it came as a surprise. My editor had just bought a three-book series from me and I was so thrilled with that, the last thing I expected was for her to read Hollow and Legend and decide to offer on them (they were self-published just a few months prior). But I was really happy because they are books I loved writing and believe in and I don’t think they had a fair shot at finding their audience when they first came out as indie, so I loved the idea that they got a second chance now as trad.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
speculative (I love gothic, horror, sci-fi, thrillers, so spec fic kind of encompasses those)

What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Black Doves is an excellent spy TV show and I’m almost finished The Beast in Me, which I’m loving. Last amazing book I read was Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid (yet another author I admire greatly)

Japanese

Travel, read, and buy shit I shouldn’t online lol
