1--What is the title of your latest release?
RULES FOR RUIN (Crinoline Academy, book 1)
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Great Expectations meets Peaky Blinders, with a dark academia vibe.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
The Victorian era is my favorite period in history. I love the grit and the atmosphere, and the social and political dynamics at play. It was a period of great change, when people had to either learn to adapt or be left behind.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Absolutely. Effie Flite is witty, loyal, and possessed of a keen sense of fashion. All qualities I admire! She’s also a girl’s girl, with a strong sense of sisterhood. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for her friends.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Clever, courageous, determined.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
During the course of my research, I learned just how revolutionary it was for mid-Victorian women to be thoroughly educated, and to be taught things like basic self-defense.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit as I draft. And I keep editing all the way through, and then again in several passes once the manuscript is finished.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I recently baked a Nigella Lawson flourless chocolate orange cake that was pretty amazing!
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I broke my neck several years ago, so can’t sit up at a desk for long periods of time unsupported. Instead, I usually write propped up in my adjustable bed. Either that or in a tall-backed chair in my living room, with my laptop on my lap.
10--Who is an author you admire?
There are so many! Kate Quinn is definitely one of them. Her writing is spectacular, both in the research that goes into it and in her execution of the story. She’s also incredibly supportive and kind.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
Books I read in my formative years had the biggest impact. One of these was The Gate to Women’s Country by Sheri S. Tepper. There’s so much to unpack in this novel. I read it again as an adult, and it still resonated, but in different ways.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
The Crinoline Academy series was actually part of a new contract with my publisher. I think it was about a week from the time my literary agent pitched it to the moment the offer came in.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Anything historical!
14--What’s your favorite movie?
Jaws.
15--What is your favorite season?
Autumn.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Cake, champagne, and quiet time out at the barn with my mare, Asteria.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I highly recommend the She Wore Black podcast. It focuses mainly on gothic novels, which is a genre I absolutely adore.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Italian.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
What’s that? But seriously, lately, there’s been very little of it. When I have a few moments free, I try to sleep or go outside and get some sun to recharge myself.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I have two more historical romances coming out this year! The next is THE GOVERNESS AND THE ROGUE (Somerset Stories, book 6), which releases on August 5th. After that comes THE MARRIAGE METHOD (Crinoline Academy, book 2), out on November 25th!
Crinoline Academy #1

No one betrays the Academy. But now Euphemia must decide: break the rules for her enemy, or let the rules break her heart.
On the outskirts of London sits a seemingly innocuous institution with a secretive aim—train young women to distract, disrupt, and discredit the patriarchy. Outraged by a powerful politician’s systematic attack on women’s rights, the Academy summons its brightest—and most bitter—pupil to infiltrate the odious man’s inner circle. A deal is struck: bring down the viscount, and Miss Euphemia Flite will finally earn her freedom.
But betting shop owner Gabriel Royce has other plans. The viscount is the perfect pawn to insulate Gabriel’s underworld empire from government interference. He’s not about to let some crinoline-clad miss destroy his carefully constructed enterprise—no matter how captivating he finds her threats.
From the rookeries of St. Giles to the ballrooms of Mayfair, Euphemia and Gabriel engage in a battle of wits and wills that’s complicated by a blossoming desire. Soon Euphemia realizes it’s not the broken promises to her Academy sisters she should fear. . . . It’s the danger to her heart.
