Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present G.R. Macallister!
Writes:
I grew up reading fantasy, getting hooked on imaginary worlds when my fifth-grade teacher introduced us to Madeleine L’Engle’s A WRINKLE IN TIME, then losing myself in the endless creative possibilities of Dungeons and Dragons. Many years later, I became disenchanted with how so many fantasy worlds failed to reimagine society, clinging to the male-centric power structures familiar to most of us in the Western world. Hungry for an old-school swords-and-sorcery fantasy world that put women front and center, I read every matriarchal fantasy I could get my hands on—then decided it was time to write one myself.
The Five Queendoms series imagines a woman-centric society that is neither a utopia nor a dystopia, simply a world that developed differently, led by powerful women—some wonderful, some terrible, most somewhere in between. Women are not only the rulers of the Queendoms but the world’s warriors and magicians, senators and priests, leaders and revolutionaries. The final book in the trilogy, SESTIA, is out now.
About:
Bestselling author of epic fantasy seeks readers who believe in the transforming power of imagination. Loves women in power, stories with epic scope, and plot twists you won’t see coming. Looking for readers who enjoy juicy plots, a great big cast of characters, and world-building that reimagines everything from government to language through a female lens.
My deal reader match:
- Loves classic epic fantasy, but with a twist
- Not afraid of a little (or more than a little) sex and violence
- Ready to go the distance with a full trilogy
- Excited to fall in love with my characters just like I do
- Thinks the fantasy canon could use more queendoms
What to expect if we're compatible:
- A fully drawn, absorbing world of five queendoms populated with women you’ll love, hate, and love to hate
- Scenes that will make you cheer, sigh, scream, swoon, and curse my name (I’m not afraid to kill off a character here and there…)
- A world run by women where, suddenly and without explanation, girls stop being born
- Three books, each with its own satisfying ending but also part of a larger, complete arc
- A good chance you’ll adopt some of the queendoms’ favorite sayings, like “Velja’s lower beard!” and “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed woman is queen.”
Five Queendoms #3

Return to The Five Queendoms series with the final book in this “ambitious and engaging” (Rebecca Roanhorse) epic fantasy trilogy, in which a centuries-long peace is shattered in a matriarchal society when a decade passes without a single girl being born.
While a fragile peace has begun to settle across the Five Queendoms of the known world, trouble brews beneath the smooth façade. The first gate between the Underlands, where Eresh rules over the shades of the dead, has already been opened—and the scheming shade of a dead sorcerer has evil plans he hopes to unleash on the world. In the world Above, the Scorpicae struggle to find a path forward in defeat, the embattled regent of Paxim gets more than she bargained for, and a young woman who barely survived the Sun Rites finds herself the indispensable right hand of a priest-queen whose sanity appears to be slipping away.
As living women across the Queendoms take desperate action to stay alive, and dead women plot to regain what they’ve lost, the time for the next Sun Rites nears. When five queens gather in the Holy City of Sestia for the most important ritual of their lives, who will be left standing?
