The Enemy’s Daughter, May 2025

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Melissa Poett!

Writes:

I’m a connoisseur of all things YA and have written everything from fantasy to contemporary. My debut novel, THE ENEMY’S DAUGHTER, is a YA reimagining of Tristan and Isolde set in a dystopian world woven with magic. It’s about an elite soldier and a young healer on opposite sides of a decades-long war who end up magically connected and must choose whether to give into their growing attraction to each other . . . or betray the other to save their own people.

About:

My single goal as an author is to make my readers feel something. You may not remember the names of my characters or titles of my books, but hopefully you’ll remember how I made you swoon over a fictional man or gasp at a plot twist. Occasionally, I may make you want to throw something in rage at the injustices I write about.

My hobbies include reading books that destroy me (in both good and sad ways) and watching internet videos of strangers that make me cry (in both good and sad ways). When not writing or stressing about writing, I can probably be found reading, being a mom, or convincing my cats they should cuddle me.

What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:

  • People who aren’t afraid to YEARN for fictional characters.
  • People who take their romance as strong as their fantasy (maybe a little more)
  • People who love forced proximity (I mean, come on now)
  • People who love a good dystopian coming-of-rage story—because dystopian books will have their day again!

What to expect if we're compatible:

  • Expect a fast pace. We’ve got romance to get to.
  • Expect hot, emotionally intelligent men (we don’t do children around here)
  • Expect characters who suffer in their pining for their forbidden romance and plot twists that make you neglect your life until you finish the book (sorry, not sorry)

THE ENEMY’S DAUGHTER by Melissa Poett

A stunning reimagining of Tristan and Isolde set in a dystopian world woven with magic. An addictive debut YA enemies-to-lovers romantasyperfect for fans of Rebecca Ross and Sarah Underwood as well as books like Curious TidesThe Hurricane Wars, and Belladonna.

It’s been thirty-seven years since the Republic was destroyed. Now two settlements—the five clans and the Kingsland—fight for control of the untainted land. Though the five clans are outnumbered, they’ve finally struck, killing Kingsland’s brutal leader.

In the war that follows, Isadora, an eighteen-year-old healer, risks her life to help injured soldiers. But when she stops an attack from Tristan, a Kingsland assassin, his soldiers shoot her with a poisoned arrow. As Isadora lies dying, Tristan does the unimaginable: He offers to save her life using a rare magic.

In choosing to live, Isadora is unknowingly bound to the mysterious Tristan. Worse, even acknowledging the attraction between them allows him to glean fragments of her memories and the very knowledge he needs to destroy the five clans. But their magical connection works both ways. So to save her people, Isadora will have to open her heart to her most cunning enemy. Because in a race for ultimate survival, she’ll need to destroy Tristan and his people first.
