Book Title: ENCHANTINGLY YOURS

Character Name: Gemma Solace

How would you describe your family or your childhood?

My childhood was very happy. I had two parents who loved me. My mother would read me stories before bed which started my love of books from a young age, and my father was a talented musician. He would play me his latest song on his magical lute. That is, until my mother was corrupted by an evil Senator who wants to bring magic to Earth to rule over it. To escape prosecution, she fled to the surface, and I haven’t seen her since. I wish I could change her mind and bring her back.

What was your greatest talent?

If reading books is a talent, then I’d win a gold medal! There’s nothing I love more than getting lost in a good story. Bonus points if it’s a fantasy romance, my favorite genre!

Significant other?

Oh, I wish! I’m so jealous of Princess Esme who just found her soulmate and got married. Maybe, with a little bit of luck and magic, I’ll find my dream guy one day too. For now, though, falling in love with fictional characters is good for me!

Biggest challenge in relationships?

My anxiety gets in the way a lot. If I can find someone who can handle me at my worst moments, and even help me calm down, then I’ll know he’s a keeper.

Where do you live?

I live in a magical kingdom called Fairhaven below Toronto. I’ve never gone up to the surface to see Earth, but my father is really encouraging me to try new things and live my life. Change can be scary!

Do you have any enemies?

Unfortunately, I do. There’s a small group of people from Fairhaven who think that since we have magic and fairy godmothers, we should rule over Earth. My mother is sadly one of them. They’re dangerous—to both my people and humans.

How do you feel about the place where you are now? Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly repelled by, in this place?

Fairhaven is a wonderful place to live—the library in particular. I love to watch dragons fly and unicorns gallop past the window. And, of course, my good friend Cal is another reason I’m attached to Fairhaven. He works at the royal palace as a chef. He’s my bestie, and I tell him everything!

Do you have children, pets, both, or neither?

Neither! Maybe one day I’ll have children, but only if I meet someone really great. I don’t have any pets, but I’ve heard good things about…hang on, let me remember their name…oh, dogs! I’ve read human books about dogs, and they seem so awesome. I’d love to adopt one!

What do you do for a living?

I work in the library in Fairhaven! You can find me near the back, tucked away with a good book, some tea, and my favorite dress. I tend to get lost in the story when I’m reading, so if you drop by, make sure you yell really loudly so I can hear you! I’d love to help you find a good story that’ll keep you up all night.

Greatest disappointment?

Losing my mother, of course. My father hasn’t been himself since she vanished to the surface. Even his music doesn’t have the same enthusiasm. If I ever work up the courage to head to the surface, I think I’m going to try to find her—for both our sakes. I’m not sure where to start, though. She could be anywhere. And planning anything, even something awful for the people of Earth.

Greatest source of joy?

Books, books, books! I could read them all day and never grow bored. My best friend, Cal, and my father also bring me joy. I love them to pieces!

What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?

Other than books? I read more books! Just kidding. I also like to watch my father perform. And honestly? I just like talking to people and giving them comfort. I want to be able to help people—with or without magic.

What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?

As much as I hate to admit it, I do need to get out more. Books are great, but sometimes, you have to put them down and see what’s going on around you. It’s important to have moments that make you feel alive. Otherwise, you’re not really living, you know? I need to work on breaking out of my shell.

What keeps you awake at night?

If I’ll ever find my mother again or meet my soulmate. Also, book cliffhangers. I need to know how my favorite stories will end. Oh, and spiders. Especially the magical ones in Fairhaven. They creep me out!

What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?

Other than finding my mother? Probably working up the courage to head to the surface and explore Toronto. I know there’s a world waiting out there for me, but I’m so nervous. I’m going to need a pep talk and some deep breaths!

Is there something that you need or want that you don’t have? For yourself or for someone important to you?

I want to cheer up my father. As I said, he’s been so upset since my mother vanished. If I could, I would take away all his sadness. And I want to prove to myself that I can accomplish something on my own. Like living alone and surviving up there in the human world.

Why don’t you have it? What is in the way?

To get that, I’ll have to head to the surface. It won’t be easy, but…I need to do this. Let me just grab my magical suitcase and take a few deep breaths. With a little luck, I’ll find my mother, prove myself, and meet someone really great. A girl can dream. Once I head up to the human world, I know I’ll be in for an adventure!
