1--What is the title of your latest release?

STORM WARNING

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Remi must recall the danger that sent her into hiding at a coastal storm-watching lodge before it’s too late. When the most ferocious storm in a decade hits the coast, she’s forced into survival mode with a mysterious stranger, and together, they battle an unknown adversary that tries to silence Remi forever.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Setting always inspires me. I’ve long wanted to set a series along the dramatic Washington coast of the Olympic Peninsula. Even better, add in a storm-watching lodge to ramp up the chills and thrills. I love that nature can play a huge role in the suspense genre, and Olympic Peninsula offers it all with the rocky coastline, high winds and storms rolling in from the Pacific, a temperate rainforest, designated wilderness areas, and the Olympic Mountains, all in a place so remote there’s limited or no cell coverage. Even satellite is spotty.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

I think Remi might be too intense for me, considering her background as an army photographer, and the stress she’s dealing with since she can’t remember what sent her into hiding. Somehow, she knows her life is in danger and by proximity, my life might be too. Ha! On the other hand, she was raised on a farm and ran a bed-and-breakfast with her mom, so she’s very down-to-earth and relatable. I’m sure we’d have plenty to talk about . . . once the danger is gone.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Survivor, Capable, Compassionate

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

This story dives into psychological issues involving memories. Our brains can lie to us by filling in the gaps—things we can’t remember—with incorrect information. That’s why two witnesses to the same event see things differently. If you can’t trust your own memories, if you can’t yourself, who can you trust?

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I write a very rough draft first because I need to get the story down, then I can come back and see what more is needed. There’s no point in editing something that might need to go until I know it’s going to stay.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I’m a foodaholic so that’s a tough one, and since I “indulge” frequently, I’m not sure there’s anything left that I could call a treat. That’s the problem with stress writing and stress eating, they go together. Ha! But I’ll go with ice cream—just plain vanilla.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I’ve taken over the dining room because that’s connected to the kitchen and those are the two primary places I work. The dining room is now somewhere else. I have a nice chair upholstered with “words” fabric that I found at a thrift shop - and I just had to have it! - and an L-shaped desk and two bookshelves, and lots of boxes of books on the floor.

10--Who is an author you admire?

I admire so many authors it’s hard to name just one, but I’ll go with Nora Roberts - is there anyone so prolific?

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

I think that every book I read can change my life in some way, especially those that have stories of faith, hope and redemption and serve to remind us what’s important in life.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

For this book, Storm Warning, I received an offer from my editor after presenting the series to the publishing board. This will be my fourth series with Revell.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

I love reading romantic suspense - which is what I write - but I also read widely and will choose thrillers along with some fantasy and science fiction, speculative books.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

This changes often, but right now I absolutely love The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. The movie felt like the romantic suspense books I love to read and write.

15--What is your favorite season?

I love autumn. I think it’s because it represents change and brings back memories of when school started and then the coming holidays. I love the smells - oh the smells! Pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon. Bring on the fall!

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

We go out to eat Mexican food and cake.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Silo came out in 2023, but I was just thinking I can’t wait for season 2 which I think is supposed to release in 2025. Silo, written by Hugh Howey, was made into a TV series starring Rebecca Ferguson. It’s a science fiction dystopian story but it’s also a murder mystery and I thought it was brilliant.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Tex-Mex all the way!

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I read!

20--What can readers expect from you next?

PERILOUS TIDES is book 2 in the Hidden Bay series and is coming to readers in 2025! I’m currently working on book 3.

STORM WARNING by Elizabeth Goddard

Hidden Bay #1

Haunted by a half-forgotten past, former army photographer Remi Grant is working at an isolated storm-watching lodge on the rocky Washington coast when she receives a mysterious puzzle piece. The piece may be the catalyst to unlock a disturbing incident she struggles to remember--the event that sent her into hiding. But with heavy storms rolling in, she must focus on the present, not get caught up in the past.

When a mysterious man at the lodge saves her life--more than once--Remi becomes suspicious and confronts him. After a catastrophic event in his own life, former military pilot Hawk Beckett is trying to get some perspective at the suggestion of his former commanding officer. Faced with the fiercest storm to hit the coast in a decade, Remi and Hawk are forced into survival mode.

But they're not alone at the lodge. Someone doesn't want Remi to remember what happened--and they will stop at nothing to see her dead.
