Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Maggie Shayne
Writes:
My latest is The Portal Series: Three epic paranormal romance novels and one novella, in which three sisters, slaves in a Babylonian king’s harem, were executed for practicing witchcraft, and for falling in love. Indira fell for a young priest-in-training, Lilia, for the king’s most trusted soldier, and Magdalena for his son, the prince.
Enraged at their death sentence, Lilia’s beloved soldier killed the king, but the execution went on all the same, and he was sentenced to far worse. His soul was stripped by the high priest, and he was pitched into a dark, eternal void.
Now, thirty-five centuries later, the sisters have reincarnated, destined to right this ancient wrong. They must find each other again, restore the tormented-one’s soul, reunite with their lost loves, and deliver justice that’s long past due.
About:
In a nutshell, I’m about dogs, decaf, pine-covered mountains, rural living, writing, cooking, learning about nutrition, blogging, my sexy soulmate, a grouchy mastiff, and a little spellcasting on the side. That’s me.
In more detail: I love writing fiction including thrillers, paranormals, and small-town romance. I’ve published 113 titles so far with Harlequin, Silhouette, Harper, St. Martin’s Press, Berkley, Avon, Pocket Books, Spilled Candy Books, Independently, and now with Oliver Heber Books.
I live in the breathtaking rural hilltops of Cortland County NY where I am passionate about photographing fall foliage every year. Autumn is my favorite season. In winter I like to curl up inside by a fire either reading or writing a good book.
I’m a card-carrying Wiccan with credentials and stuff. Clergy even; I can marry ‘em and bury ‘em, as they say in the biz.
My hot hubby and I eat a whole food, all-plant diet. Nothing more processed than tofu, nothing with added oil, no parts of foods. If I want olive oil, I’ll eat the whole olive. If I want orange juice, I’ll eat the whole orange. It’s a disease-reversing way to live. I’m so passionate about it that I earned a certificate in whole food plant-based nutrition from eCornell. I have a whole new understanding of what we put into our bodies and what it does.
I blog about natural magic and law of attraction at https://blissblog.org and about a whole food, all-plant lifestyle with cooking tips and recipes at www.eatlikeyougiveashit.com (The www is required.)
I might be best known for one of the longest-running vampire romance series, (maybe THE longest-running, 1993-present) Wings in the Night. 24 stories and ongoing. It was the first series to routinely use the word “Twilight” in its titles, and its first novel, Twilight Phantasies, was the second vampire genre-romance published, to my knowledge. (Lori Herter’s Obsession was first, I believe. The St. Germain books were earlier, but they were not genre-romance or romance at all, really.)
I also write thrillers. Number 1 New York Times bestseller Karen Robards says my suspense novels have “Page-turning thrills” and “a permanent spot on my keeper shelf.”
But my bestselling series are my small-town and western romances, The Texas Brand, the Oklahoma Brands, The McIntyre Men, and now The Texas Brand: Generations
What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:
A fan of long-ass, sexy vampire romance series
A discerning reader who appreciates good writing.
A fan of shorter romantic suspense series
A voracious reader eager to discover treasures in my backlist.
A fan of multi-spinoff small-town romance series.
A reader who likes to laugh and cry real tears (good ones) in every book.
A reader who loves that feeling when, at the end, you close the book and sigh all the way from your toes at the perfect, satisfying ending.
A reader who loves a short, quick, stand-alone read every once in a while.
A reader who loves feeling better when she finishes a story than she did when she started it.
A reader who believes in girl-power!
A reader who believes in magic.
What to expect if we're compatible:
First, you’ll probably explore my website and dig around in some of my series (I want to say there are eleven or so) in the dropdown menu. My paranormal series are Wings in the Night (vampires) the Portal (Witches), By Magic (Fantasy,) and The Immortals (witches.) My small-town series are The Texas Brand, The Oklahoma Brands, The McIntyre Men, and The Texas Brand: Generations. In those books, there’s a miracle in every story. Many of them are holiday romances. My suspense and thrillers are Danger After Dawn, Brown and de Luca, and Shattered Sisters. In addition I have something like 13 low-priced stand-alone novellas in e-only.
There is a wide range of stuff to choose from.
So you’ll choose your first series and begin your journey.
While on the website, you might click through to my Coffee House Blog, where I talk about books and women and life, or my Bliss Blog where I talk about magic, or my foodie blog where I talk about whole food plant-based living and cooking, with recipes. You can subscribe to any or all of the blogs for free, and you can also sign up for my newsletter. There’s a form on the bottom of every page on the website. I never email more than once a week, and usually it’s once every other week or so. Sometimes I publish serial stories in the newsletter.

You will discover too, that my presence on the rich boy tech bro networks is winding down. You can follow me there and I’ll post new releases and sales and freebies and cover reveals. I just can’t interact there like I used to. I am my most authentic self on Bluesky, however. A true public square with no secret algorithms pushing some posts and muting others. It’s amazing. Everyone is there.
