Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader-Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Raquel Vasquez Gilliland!
Writes:
Magical realism romance, which is often categorized as romantasy. In my latest book, LIGHTNING IN HER HANDS, Teal Flores’ emotions control the weather, to her dismay. She needs to find her mother to figure out how to control her magical gift. Enter Carter Velasquez, her former childhood best friend. He needs a fake marriage to secure a familiar inheritance, offering Teal enough so she can afford a private investigator to find her mother. Win/win, right? Not exactly, considering Teal’s growing attraction to Carter, who is hot one minute, then cold the next. Being with Carter makes her feel like she’s made of lightning—and the weather reflects this every time.
About:
I’m an autistic Latina with about one thousand special interests that I love to research for fun including but not limited to: decolonizing gardening and landscaping, breeding flowers, witchery, and plant consciousness. I love to spend my free time organizing and decluttering, hosting romance book clubs, and getting together with my coven to hex patriarchal institutions. I’m no good at flirting but I’m really awesome at cooking, making tea, and dream interpretation.
What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:
- a reader who is looking for a Latine Practical Magic
- loves elemental magic
- is enchanted by a Stars Hollow-like small town setting
What to expect if we’re compatible:
- become an advocate for the protection of wild places
- you’ll learn how to make the perfect tea latte
- you’ll know so very much about dahlia genetics
Gifted—or cursed—with the power to influence the weather, one woman must embrace her wild heart in the next electric romance from the author of Witch of Wild Things.
Teal Flores is desperate for two things—control over her gift of weather, and a date to her ex’s wedding. The first isn’t possible until she finds her long-lost mother, but the second has a very handsome last-ditch solution: Carter Velasquez.
Carter needs Teal too. His chance at receiving an inheritance is dependent on him being married by age thirty (blame his traditional Cuban grandmother), so who better to pose as his wife than Teal? But fake marriage and cohabitation prove tricky when mutual attraction charges the atmosphere—quite literally for Teal, whose volatile emotions cause lightning strikes.
Together, Teal and Carter embark on a quest to find her mother and the answers she’s searching for. But along the way, they’ll discover something even better: a love that can weather any storm.
