1--What is the title of your latest release?

NO ONE WILL KNOW

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Eve has just lost the love of her life. She is alone, friendless and pregnant. Enter Julia and Christopher, the perfect couple, who live in a beautiful mansion and want to share their perfect life with Eve. A desperate Eve accepts their offer and moves to their island, ignoring the warning bells going off in her head. By the time she realizes what she has got herself into, it’s too late to back out.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I set my books in places I would love to spend time — and who wouldn’t want to be swept away to a stunning private island off the Australian coast? I visited Tasmania as research for this novel and fell in love with its austere but beautiful landscape. I hope you will, too.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Absolutely — although I would want to give her a little advice on some of her life choices!

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

lonely, loving, courageous

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

While writing this book, I learned all about the weird, shadowy world of international wildlife trafficking. It’s a fascinating area of organized crime that I knew very little about, and it made great material for a thriller.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I write tightly plotted thrillers, so I edit as I go. If there’s a mistake in chapter 3, the rest of the book simply won’t work. Of course, there’s still a lot of editing to be done after the first draft is complete. It takes time to get the story perfect.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I’m crazy about tropical fruits, especially passionfruit.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I don’t have an office or even a desk. I like to write sitting on the floor. My house is quite small, so I don’t have a set place to write. I move around the house during the day. I like to sit close to a window where I can see the sky — that puts me in a creative mood.

10--Who is an author you admire?

I admire every author. It takes so much grit and determination to finish a manuscript and even more to get published. I feel admiration for every single person who has succeeded on that journey. I know how challenging it can be — I would never have got there if I hadn’t felt utterly compelled to keep going.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

When I was seven, I read I Am David by Anne Holm (also titled North to Freedom). I wept bucketloads. That book opened my eyes to the evil in the world but also to the ability of love, hope and courage to triumph. I still have my extremely battered copy, and it’s the thing I would save in a house fire.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I was the most naive author ever. I didn’t even have an agent. I sent my manuscript to a single publisher in Australia and then waited. One day, out of the blue, I got that life-changing email. I was so excited I could hardly read it. I literally cartwheeled across my living room! Then I rushed out to buy champagne and celebrate with friends. Soon afterwards, I received the news I had hardly let myself hope for: HarperCollins had made an offer to publish my debut in America. I was walking on air!

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

I will read just about anything. I do love thrillers, but I also go through phases of reading classics or reading a lot of books from one country, most recently Japan. So, at the moment it’s Japanese thrillers, but next month it might be Regency romance!

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Paris, Texas. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but that final scene with Nastassja Kinski twirling in her green dress — I can’t watch it without emotion. That perfect ending inspired me while I was writing No One Will Know.

15--What is your favorite season?

I live in New Zealand, where autumn comes in March. It’s always the most beautiful time of year. It’s still warm enough to swim at the beach, but the weather is fresher and more settled than in summer.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With a swim! I live by the beach and swimming is my favorite thing besides writing.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

The Inside Flap podcast. I was invited to appear on it and listened to a couple of episodes as prep. Next thing I knew, I was addicted. The hosts interview authors but also chat amongst themselves. It’s very convivial, a real comfort listen.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Thai food, especially Pad Thai. I spent four months in Thailand during a sailing voyage across the Indian Ocean, and the food was divine.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Apart from reading and writing, I also love swimming, sailing, and running, but I think my favorite thing is to spend time with family. My children are so precious to me, and they are the creations I am most proud of!

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’m working on another thriller with what I hope is the same mix of exotic settings, crazy twists, and rich people behaving badly!

NO ONE WILL KNOW by Rose Carlyle

No One Will Know

A deliciously twisty and suspenseful novel from the #1 internationally bestselling author of The Girl in the Mirror, about a desperate young woman and the manipulative wealthy couple who will stop at nothing to ensure their worst nightmare becomes a dream come true.

They’re the perfect couple. They have the perfect plan. All they need is the perfect victim.

Julia and Christopher Hygate have the picture-perfect life: gobs of money thanks to their lucrative shipping enterprise and an estate on a secluded island.

When they meet Eve Sylvester, they know she is the exact person they should hire to be their child's nanny. Eve doesn’t have any living relatives, she’s lost touch with her friends, and her partner is out of the picture. Best of all, she’s expecting a baby.

Eve thinks she’s landed the greatest gig—previously desperate and penniless, now she’ll live like a queen and have a promising future for her daughter.

But the job seems too good to be true. Why would the Hygates hire Eve if she has no prior nannying experience? Why must Eve stay out of sight? And what’s with the mysterious yachts coming in and out of the Hygates' private marina?

It's too late to ask questions, though, Eve is already in far too deep.

Set against the backdrop of a remote island, an endless stream of secrets, and unbelievable wealth, No One Will Know is a propulsive, seductive novel of suspense that shows the terrible consequences of shocking greed, staggering lies, and fatal mistakes.
