1--What is the title of your latest release?
ALL THE MISSING GIRLS
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
In ALL THE MISSING GIRLS, crime reporter Mari Alvarez has just 48 hours to sneak into Cuba undetected and find her missing sister. With no contacts and an ice-cold trail of cryptic clues, Mari must navigate a maze of lies, deception, and sinister Brujeria to uncover the truth before it's too late.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I met my husband while reporting a story in Cuba. I also discovered a magical town outside of Havana, Cuba full or art by one artist who lived there. It’s called Fusterlandia and it’s beautiful. The artist opens his house for tourists to visit. I wondered what would happen if I renamed it Oshunvilla and made it a dark place where girls disappeared. That was the seed for this book.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Yes, she’s a feisty reporter with a good heart looking to use her platform to do good. I respect that. I’d loosen her up though. She’s a little serious. That’s why I gave her a funny side kick to lighten the mood.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
loyal, determined, feisty.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
Santeria and Brujeria. One is an Afro Cuban religion that developed in Cuba during the late 19th century, a mixture of the traditional African Yoruba religion and the Roman Catholic for of Christianity. Brujeria is the dark side of Santeria, often likened to witchcraft.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
Edit as I go. I’m such a control freak. Lol I want it to be perfect for you!
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
pizza! Meat lovers.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I have a desk upstairs near my bedroom with pictures surrounding me that I love.
10--Who is an author you admire?
I love authors that make me feel be it love, fear or angst. I love James Patterson and Harlen Coben’s thrillers, Collen Hoovers love stories.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
Reading Judy Blume as a young girl. Taught me about life.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I received an email from an editor I met at a writer’s conference who said she loved my book. It took years to get that call and I will always be grateful for it.

Thrillers and romantic suspense

20--What can readers expect from you next?
My next book is titled The Phantom Pirate of Gasparilla. THE PHANTOM PIRATE OF GASPARILLA - Crime reporter Mari Alvarez hopes to repair her relationships, but when John Hanks, a serial killer she once investigated, resurfaces, threatening those closest to her, she must stop him before he destroys her newfound happiness. As Hanks taunts her by appearing at Tampa’s Gasparilla pirate themed events, and framing her with AI generated evidence, Mari realizes she can’t trust anyone. When Hanks kidnaps her loved ones and hides them in the old mafia tunnels under Tampa’s famed Ybor City, Mari faces Hanks alone. She knows failure means a gruesome death for not just her and her loved ones, but for the tens of thousands gathered for the final Gasparilla parade.
Once you enter their world, there is no escape…in this gripping and undeniably chilling thriller from Emmy-award winning journalist Linda Hurtado Bond.
As a crime reporter for a Tampa TV news station, Mari Alvarez knows when an investigation enters dangerous territory. But with her estranged sister missing and almost no information to go on, Mari can’t trust anyone but herself to find the truth. Now she has just 48 hours to sneak into Cuba undetected, track down her sister and pray to her orisha that she’s not too late.
This is nothing like reporting in her neighborhood, though - a place she knows like the back of her hand. In Havana she has no contacts and only an ice-cold trail of cryptic clues. When Detective Tony Garcia offers to help, Mari puts aside her instincts and tries to let someone in. But soon they’re caught in a maze of lies, deception, and an undercurrent of the island’s own witchcraft, a sinister Brujeria.
Every lead draws Mari further into this world of shadows, especially when her sister isn’t the only young woman who’s gone missing. Each step pushes Mari and Tony toward a revelation they never saw coming. And as they close in on the horrifying truth, one thing becomes clear - no one will let them leave Cuba alive.
