1--What is the title of your latest release?
’TIL HEIST DO US PART
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A misfit heist crew are forced to do one last heist to save their friend from the clutches of a ruthless mob boss.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
The main villain of the story is a ruthless mob boss so Chicago, one of my favorite cities, was the perfect fit.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
I try to write characters that I would love to be friends with or that resonate with me in some way, and Simi is the one I would most like to hang out with in real life.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Loyal, resilient, fun.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned about the incredible bunkers billionaires build under their mansions in case of an apocalypse or nuclear war. They can exceed $50 million in cost and span over 10,000 sq ft in size. They contain swimming pools, saunas, hydroponic gardens, libraries, wine cellars, cinemas, games rooms, staff quarters, multiple kitchens and lounges, museums and art galleries and can sustain an entire household for over five years.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I usually edit as I draft because often things change as I write, and I will have to go back to earlier chapters to add easter eggs, conversations or tweak character traits.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Nachos are my favorite treat!
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I have an office in the middle of the house with a view into the garden which provides a great distraction when I have writer’s block, and easy access to the kitchen for procrastination snacks!
10--Who is an author you admire?
I adore Sonali Dev. She can make me laugh on one page and cry on the next. Her characters are beautifully and richly drawn and her stories always tug on my heart.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander was the first book I read that was a mashup of genres - historical fiction, romance, adventure and fantasy. Aside from the incredible story, it made me realize that a book can cross genres, which is what I have done with ’Til Heist Do Us Part.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I was visiting my in-laws on their farm in a very rural area when I got the call from my agent. My in-laws had very limited cell service and the call kept fading in and out. I had to keep asking my agent if she was saying what I thought she was saying and finally I heard her say yes! It was an utterly thrilling moment and a dream that I had never imagined would come true.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romance (of course!)
14--What’s your favorite movie?
The Princess Bride
15--What is your favorite season?
Autumn
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I love spending birthdays with family and trying out restaurants I’ve never tried before.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I absolutely adored the series Daisy Jones and the Six and immediately read Taylor Jenkins Reid’s book for a double dose!
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
South Asian
19--What do you do when you have free time?
I love kayaking in the summer and try to spend as much time on the water as I can. When I’m not outdoors, I love watching movies with the family.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I’m working on a super-secret project in a different genre. Hopefully you’ll hear about it soon!
Diamond necklaces, billionaires, Mafia bosses, and student loans—it’s all in a day’s work for Simi Chopra and her ragtag heist crew in the next romantic-comedy caper from Sara Desai.
It’s been a year since Simi Chopra’s motley crew pulled off a high-wire diamond necklace heist with the help of sexy rogue Jack Danger. After living it up on the reward money, they're back where they started, struggling to pay their bills. So when a Chicago Mafia boss demands they return the jewels—plus interest, or else—they need to get the team back together…and fast.
Unfortunately, Simi soon discovers that the necklace is in the hands of Jack's nemesis, a highly-skilled and supremely vengeful master thief who is not above a little blackmail to get even. (Did Jack really have to piss her off?) Now, the crew is forced into her working her con in order to get the necklace back.
As if Simi needed any more complications while trying to rob a billionaire’s mansion, she and Jack are on the rocks, someone else is after her score, and a gorgeous detective is hot on her tail. Simi better be careful or she’ll end up in the less fun kind of handcuffs.
