1--What is the title of your latest release?
HEAVENBREAKER
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A girl takes revenge on her noble family by riding a giant robot into a space jousting tournament in this sci-fi fantasy. Pacific Rim meets Game of Thrones.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Anything that’s giant benefits from less gravity – think whales or giant squid. Giant robots are more difficult to conceptualize and maneuver in any place with gravity, so I figured – why not zero g?
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
I think Synali is too obsessed with revenge to be that fun at parties, but I’d like to make her soup and wrap her in a blanket.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Driven, unrelenting, hopeful
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
Writing multiple POVs is much easier when you give them to the reader in microdoses rather than whole chapters!
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit as I draft to make sure the setup behind me is stable, if that makes sense.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I absolutely love a good gooey pizza!
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I have an Ikea chaise that my cat and I split equally – my laptop is the radiator that keeps the two of us warm.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Dianna Wynne Jones is such a monolith. I also really admire Beverly Jenkins.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
Terry Prachett’s Tiffany Aching series changed the way I look at writing as a whole – as a duty rather than a solely selfish creative effort.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
My agent sent me an email first, which I think I slept through, but then she called my phone and I was so groggy I thought it was a dream at first! Thankfully, it wasn’t. I made sure to celebrate with a cheesecake.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
I’m a big fan of MG fantasy and YA!
14--What’s your favorite movie?
Ten Things I Hate About You! I miss Heath Ledger deeply every time I watch it.
15--What is your favorite season?
Autumn! It’s the perfect time for cooking and baking.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I like to go out to eat with a small group of friends – maybe a spa day?
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I really recommend Dungeon Meshi! It’s a show on Netflix with a cozy fantasy vibe.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I really love Thai – fresh herbs and lime can’t be beat.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
I game a lot! I also practice singing and lyric writing.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
The sequel to HEAVENBREAKER, of course! The tentative title is HELLRUNNER!
Bravery isn't what you do. It's what you endure.
The duke of the powerful House Hauteclare is the first to die. With my dagger in his back.
He didn’t see it coming. Didn’t anticipate the bastard daughter who was supposed to die with her mother—on his order. He should have left us with the rest of the Station’s starving, commoner rubbish.
Now there’s nothing left. Just icy-white rage and a need to make House Hauteclare pay. Every damn one of them.
Even if it means riding Heavenbreaker—one of the few enormous machines left over from the War—and jousting against the fiercest nobles in the system.
Each win means another one of my enemies dies. And here, in the cold terror of space, the machine and I move as one, intent on destroying each adversary—even if it’s someone I care about. Even if it’s someone I’m falling for.
Only I’m not alone. Not anymore.
Because there’s something in the machine with me. Something horrifying. Something…more.
And it won’t be stopped.
