Elizabeth Everett | A Woman Apothecary Needs the Help of a Grumpy Private Investigator

facebookgoodreadsbookbubInstagram

1--What is the title of your latest release?

THE LOVE REMEDY

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Woman apothecary needs the help of a grumpy private investigator to find a missing formula.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

All my historical romances have been set in London in the early 1800’s. I find this part of Victoria’s reign to be fascinating. One of the reasons I write historical romance is to draw parallels between history and the present. This specific period and place is ripe with examples of what has changed —and what hasn’t for women in society.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Oh, absolutely. I have a soft spot for over achievers who never put themselves first.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Lucy Peterson is empathetic, wry, and genuine.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned that the Chelsea Botanical Garden was once the Apothecaries Garden and off-limits to anyone not a member of the Apothocaries Society!

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I tell myself to just draft and then edit later, but I always wind up editing as I write.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Hmmmm. These days I am obsessed with marinated feta on spanish crackers.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I am still in search of a permanent writing spot. For the book I am working on now, I have taken to curling up at the end of the couch with Miss Bear, my three-year-old Havanese.

10--Who is an author you admire?

I am a huge fan of Joanna Lowell’s writing, always Julie Ann Long, and will always want to write like Joanna Bourne.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

No. There are many books that I will never forget, however, as well as many volumes of poetry.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

The call came quite a few years ago now —time flies when you’re writing kissing books!

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

These days I am digging deep into True Crime and autobiographies.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

These change so often. Maybe Little Miss Sunshine?

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall. Always and forever fall in Upstate New York.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I like to go for a run or to the gym first thing in the morning, so I don’t feel guilty about whatever ridiculous dessert I get that day.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I am loving A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams. Gorgeous, funny, smart, and romantic.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

This changes all the time! Right now, I am moving away from Asian-fusion and going back to a fish heavy Mediterranean menu. That sounds super impressive, but it just means I’m tired of vegetable stir fry so I’m eating more fish and farro.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Free time? What is this? When I can’t write, I listen to podcasts and crochet.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’m very excited about the second book in the Damsels of Discovery series which features a villain redeemed!

THE LOVE REMEDY by Elizabeth Everett

The Damsels of Discovery #1

The Love Remedy

When a Victorian apothecary hires a stoic private investigator to protect her business, they learn there’s only one way to treat true love—with a happily ever after.

When Lucinda Peterson’s recently perfected formula for a salve to treat croup goes missing, she’s certain it’s only the latest in a line of misfortunes at the hands of a rival apothecary. Outraged and fearing financial ruin, Lucy turns to private investigator Jonathan Thorne for help. She just didn’t expect her champion to be so . . . grumpy?

A single father and an agent at Tierney & Co., Thorne accepts missions for a wide variety of employers—from the British government to wronged wives. None have intrigued him so much as the spirited Miss Peterson. As the two work side by side to unmask her scientific saboteur, Lucy slips ever so sweetly under Thorne’s battered armor, tempting him to abandon old promises.

With no shortage of suspects—from a hostile political group to an erstwhile suitor—Thorne’s investigation becomes a threat to all that Lucy holds dear. As the truth unravels around them the cure to their problems is clear: they must face the future together.
