1--What is the title of your latest release?

KILT TRIP

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

All travel consultant Addie needs is one glance at Logan in a kilt to realize how she’s going to save his sightseeing company—did somebody say, Outlander Tour? But Logan isn’t handing over the reins of his family’s business to anyone, least of all a tartan-drunk American his father hired.

Sparks fly in a castle with dark corners, blurring Addie and Logan’s battle lines. They can’t afford distractions, but how can Addie do her job if she hasn’t explored all Scotland—and Logan—have to offer?

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I studied abroad in Scotland, and it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. I fell deeply in love with Edinburgh and the Highlands and while it was many years before I even dreamed of writing a book, I knew without a doubt, my first stories would be set in Scotland.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Addie would be the perfect travel buddy!

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Rugged, thoughtful, earnest

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

So many things! One is learning to take time to refill my creative well. I tend to want to fall into a story and never come out again, but my writing is stronger when my life is more balanced and there is so much inspiration out in the real world!

The other is finding community. This industry is so unique and it’s so comforting and important to have people in the same space who understand the ups and downs.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I have a hard time leaving things when I realize I’ve gone awry, but I do try to hold myself back from making everything “perfect” or I’d never get to the end of a story! I’m getting better at leaving notes to myself to come back to later. I find I have so much more clarity once I make it to The End for the first time.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Our family friends are from Denmark and introduced us to Raclette, which is sort of similar to a fondue. We always have it as our New Year’s Eve dinner, but we like to pull it out a couple of times a year and eat copious amounts of cheese.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

My writing space is at the dining room table. It mostly works, but it’s also in the middle of the house, so when the kids are home, they’re like, “Oh, good, we’re all working!” and they roll up with their crafting supplies. Many an afternoon has passed where I try to write and my kids say things like, “Mom, look at this green crayon coloring green!”

10--Who is an author you admire?

Livy Hart. I feel like she writes her books just for me. I admire how hard she works and how she creates truly memorable stories with such full casts of characters. Her voice is so witty and unique!

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

I suppose Outlander by Diana Gabaldon did! That was my first real obsession with Scotland, and I studied abroad because of it and then eventually wrote this book which was a big shift from my previous career.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I was at the bank setting up a new account when I got a text from my agent to call her. The way I screamed in the middle of a Wells Fargo! Not a great place to yell. I went outside to call her and paced back and forth on the sidewalk in the cold while she told me the incredible news!

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Romance. Always has been! I used to read the end of books to make sure everyone I loved was still alive. I love the assurance of a happily ever after!

14--What’s your favorite movie?

I love Catch and Release with Jennifer Garner. I love the complicated love story and how they support each other through their grief and watching the main character come back into herself. Also, it’s set in Boulder, Colorado and when I was in high school, they had a casting call for extras. My friends and I stood outside for hours in the sweltering heat and bailed before we got inside, but I could’ve been in that movie.

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall for sure. Especially in Colorado and in the mountains where I grew up when the aspen trees turn golden.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With funfetti cake like a child.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I love Ginny & Georgia, all the Taylor Tomlinson Comedy specials, and I recently re-watched Reign about Mary Queen of Scots because I am nothing if not on-brand.

I’m also currently obsessed with THE ART OF SCANDAL by Regina Black and THE VILLAIN EDIT by Sarah Brenton.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I love Italian, especially with seafood. My husband refuses to eat “anything with an exoskeleton,” so we rarely cook seafood at home.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I have two elementary-aged kids, so there isn’t a ton of free time! But we like to hike and snowshoe and get to the mountains as often as we can. Mostly I drink tea as a full hobby.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

Logan’s brother, Jack is the hero of book 2 (SCOT AND BOTHERED). He’s a photographer and must hike the rugged 80-mile Skye Trail on the Isle of Skye with his writer ex, Brooke, to help their ailing mentor finish her memoir. It’s a dual timeline, second chance romance with lots of pining and adventure and only one tent!

KILT TRIP by Alexandra Kiley

Kilt Trip

Ready or Scot...

Globetrotter Addie Macrae always follows her wanderlust. As a travel consultant, she jet sets around the world—anywhere but Scotland. But when she’s sent on assignment to help a struggling family-run tour company in the Highlands—and save her own job—Addie packs away her emotional baggage and turns on the professional charm.

Rugged as the land he loves, Logan Sutherland’s greatest joy is sharing the beauty of Scotland’s hidden gems…even if it means a wee bit of red ink on the company’s bottom line. The last thing Logan wants is some American “expert” pushing tourist traps and perpetuating myths about the Loch Ness Monster—especially when Addie never leaves her desk to experience the country for herself.

As they wage an office war, Logan discovers Addie’s secret connection to Scotland: a handful of faded Polaroids of her late mother. Hoping for a truce, he creates a private tour to the places in the pictures to help Addie find closure and appreciate the enchantment in less-traveled destinations, never expecting the off-limits attraction sparking between them. But Addie’s contract is almost up, and magic won’t pay the bills. They can’t afford distractions, but how can Addie do her job if she hasn’t explored all Scotland—and Logan—have to offer?

Alexandra Kiley

Alexandra Kiley writes big-hearted romances full of banter, found-family, and deep love. When she’s not writing, you can find her drinking tea, hiking, or gazing adoringly at the mountains of Colorado where she lives with her husband and two kids. Her novels are inspired by her semester in Scotland where she fell in love with not only the lush and magical land, but also the people who invited her into their homes and made her feel like family.
