Celeste Barclay | A Highland Love Letter

Ma bonniest Lia,

The days are long, and the sennights are longer as you are never far from my mind. Each day that I’m forced to trudge through muck and sleep in the cold reminds me of what I have left at home and what I fight to return to. Will you warm me when I return? Mayhap keep me company in our tub?

We are on the move again, forever chasing or being chased by Longshanks. The man is determined, but he still doesn’t understand there’s nay one more determined than a Highlander. I will fight to preserve the land our families have called home since the Picts. I will fight for the land where we will raise our weans. Hug Lachlan for me and tell him not to grow too fast. How I miss the feel our bairn growing in your belly. Would that I be home in time for your lying in. Ken naught matters more to be than returning to your side.

I fear much about the future, but I never fear for our clan’s wellbeing when you are in charge. Nay one dares face you when you stand atop the battlements. I truly believe we have been at peace since our marriage not because of our alliances with the Sinclairs and your family, the Rosses. I believe nay one in Scotland wishes to face your wrath should you see them move a hair on my head.

This war would be done if you and my sister led these armies. You and Kyla would have defeated Longshanks moons ago. But alas, I shall remain assured I have a home to return to and a bonnie wife in my arms when I fall asleep. It is your sage advice I keep in my head along with your stern warning that you will resurrect me and kill me all over again should I be rude enough to die.

I miss our walks to the cliffs. I miss our swims in the loch. I miss you sitting on my lap as we read our correspondence. I miss falling asleep to you in my arms, your satiny hair strewn across my chest. I miss the taste and smell of you. I miss your smile that makes all right in the world. I miss the sound of your voice in the throes of passion. I miss the flush in your cheeks when your ride. How is your onery horse, anyway? You ken I jest, at least about your steed.

I do not ken when I’ll walk through our doors, but when I do, there is naught that will keep me from showing you how much I love you, Lachlan, and our bairn on the way. Naught will keep me from trailing after you like a lovesick pup. You are everything to me, Lia. I love you now just as I always have and always will.

Your doting servant and hopefully one day worth husband,

Hamish

P.S. Liam insists my sister misses him more than you miss me. I told him your swollen belly says otherwise.

HIGHLAND LOVE COMES CALLING by Celeste Barclay

The House of Clan Sutherland #1

Highland Love Comes Calling

13th century Scotland: A land on the brink of war. As the Scots organize and plan to defend their homeland from the English King Edward I, alliances form, subterfuge abounds, and true love is born.

Hamish Sutherland was never meant to be laird. Instead, he finds himself not only leading his clan as the Earl of Sutherland, but embroiled in a violent feud with his neighbor, the Earl of Ross. A Highlander, Hamish longs to return to his rugged home—until he finds himself craving the enigmatic young lady he danced with and whose intelligence charms him. Knowing only her first name, Hamish refuses to allow anyone to stand in the way of the woman he wants. There’s one problem…

Amelia Ross never imagined the commanding warrior with his imposing size could be so gentle as his touch brings her alive. Nor did she imagine that the one man she would wish to make her own would be her father’s most reviled enemy. Sworn to serve the queen, tested by a rival, and torn between love and duty, Amelia is nobody’s fool. A skilled diplomat and strategist, she’s the only person who can create a truce between Hamish and her father as they prepare alongside Robert the Bruce and William Wallace for the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

No matter the outcome, one thing is certain: Hamish will stop at nothing to be with the woman he loves.

Discover how the House of Clan Sutherland began with Highland Love Comes Calling, the exciting prequel that introduces the couple who will forge a dynasty. This story picks up where Celeste Barclay’s Their Highland Beginning, the prequel to The Clan Sinclair, ends. House of Clan Sutherland is the newest edition to Celeste’s romantic, but often violent, medieval Scottish world that includes The Clan Sinclair, The Clan Sinclair Legacy, The Highland Ladies, and The Highland Ladies Always series. A world where family, love, loyalty, honor, and duty are everything.

Content Warning: A braw alpha hero, a fierce heroine, and scorching passion.

No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam, and a happily ever after.
