N.J. Walters | A Wolf-obsessed Artist is Dragged into a World of Where Werewolves and Magic Are Real

blogbookbubamazongoodreadsfacebooktwitter

What is the title of your latest release?

PROTECTING THE GRAY WOLF, book 2 of the Lone Wolf Legacy series, is my latest release.

What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A wolf-obsessed artist is dragged into a world of dreams and obsessions where werewolves and magic are real.

How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

PROTECTING THE GRAY WOLF is the second book of a series, so the location naturally flowed from the first book. Plus, New York City is a great backdrop for a paranormal story.

Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Luna West is an intelligent, independent, kickass woman. Plus, we both love werewolves. LOL I’d love to hang out with her.

What are three words that describe your hero?

Kade Alvarez is one intense, dominant, and dangerous immortal wolf.

What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I’m always trying to push myself to get better with each book I write. It’s less about the plot details—although I’m always researching small details and learning new things—and more about telling the story in a more compelling way.

Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I write the first draft before I do any serious edits, but each day when I sit to write I reread what I wrote the day before. I’ll sometimes make changes as I reread before I start fresh writing. But major edits come after the first draft is done.

What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I’m not really a foodie. I like my food simple and plain. But I do love 95% dark chocolate. And cheese!

Describe your writing space/office!

All but my first two books were written in a 3’ X 6 and a half’ nook in my living room. I have a 3’ shelf behind me, my chair, and a small desk with a desktop computer. There’s a screen in front of the desk to separate it from the front door area.

Who is an author you admire?

There are too many to count. If I have to pick one, I’d say Nora Roberts due to her longevity and the sheer volume of quality books she’s produced. She’s amazing and I love her books.

Is there a book that changed your life?

That’s a tough one. I’d have to say the book that really changed my life was Honor’s Splendor by Julie Garwood. Up until that point, I’d mostly read fiction and historical fiction. It opened up the world of historical romance to me. I discovered Amanda Quick, which lead me to her other books as Jayne Ann Krentz. From there, I delved into the entire romance genre and was hooked. The rest is history.

Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

It was an email that changed my life. The publisher wanted the book, but they wanted me to add about another 10K. I assured them it was no problem, then I panicked. LOL But I did it and the rest is history. I had no idea how it would change my life. Almost twenty years later, I’m still writing.

What’s your favorite genre to read?

No surprises here. It’s Romance, of course. I enjoy suspense, paranormal, historical, and contemporary. The genre is so diverse that it can cater to any mood.

What’s your favorite movie?

The Crow with Brandon Lee is my favorite movie. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen it. Vengeance and action with a great soundtrack, but at its heart it’s a love story.

What is your favorite season?

I love the heat of the summer, but my favorite season is fall. There’s Thanksgiving and Halloween, crisp days, sweaters, colorful leaves, and hot chocolate. It truly is a beautiful time of year.

How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I make it a week-long celebration. I’ll go out for breakfast the day of my birthday, maybe go to a movie, celebrate with family. It’s always fun.

What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I’m love going to the movies and am constantly reading so its impossible to pin down one in particular. I’m a History Channel junkie. I love shows like The Curse of Oak Island, Ancient Aliens, and History’s Greatest Mysteries. It’s all an adventure.

What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

As I said, I’m not a foodie. I do love a good breakfast place—toast, eggs, pancakes, fresh toast, hash browns… It’s delicious any time of day.

What do you do when you have free time?

I read a lot in my free time. I enjoy going out to the afternoon movie, as it’s always less crowded. I haunt the thrift stores for interesting items. Spend time with family. There’s always something interesting to do.

What can readers expect from you next?

After the release of PROTECTING THE GRAY WOLF, there will be the final book in the Lone Wolf Legacy trilogy featuring the black wolf. After that, I have an entire new trilogy written and written and contracted with Entangled Publishing. Fingers crossed that the first book of that series might make it out next year.

PROTECTING THE GRAY WOLF by N.J. Walters

Lone Wolf Legacy

Protecting The Gray Wolf

If they want his immortality—they’ll have to take it…in the second deeply sexy and bold Lone Wolf Legacy series from New York Times bestselling author N.J. Walters

I’m used to other wolves coming for me. They want their chance to try and take out the infamous Gray Wolf. And every single one of them fails—because lone wolves aren’t like the others…we’re stronger. Harder. Meaner. Immortal.

But it also means I’m alone. No pack. No alpha. Just the three of us—white, gray, and black. Two too many, if you ask me.

But with power-hungry mages gunning for us, I don’t have the luxury of reflection. They’re in New York City, and I Will. Hunt. Them. Down.

Which is when I see her, and every cell in my body is on alert, filled with the kind of primal longing I never knew I was capable of. Luna West may be human, but there’s some kind of thread connecting us. Call it destiny, fate…or voracious animal hunger.

I know she’s bait. She’s meant to tempt me, to make me weak. But even if I could resist her, I’m not sure I want to.

Because I’ve never denied my wolf anything…especially the chance to raise some serious hell.

And I’m not about to start now.
